To find out whether a game will run, first check that its official listing supports your exact platform. For a PC version, compare your CPU, graphics card, RAM, operating system, and available storage with the game’s minimum and recommended requirements. A match is a useful screening result, not a promise of smooth performance or even a successful launch.
Start with the game’s official listing for your platform
Open the game’s store page or publisher support page and confirm that it offers a version for the system you plan to use. On Steam, scroll to System Requirements; the listing identifies compatible operating systems and gives the game’s hardware requirements. For a console, check the game’s console store page or publisher information for the exact console or console family. Do not assume that owning a console edition means a separate PC edition will work on your computer: the PC version has its own platform support and requirements.

Record the minimum and recommended specifications shown for the PC version. Compare the exact component models and values rather than relying on a broad brand or product series.

Also note any additional features or peripherals the publisher lists. Requirements are specific to each title; Xbox says PC game requirements vary and performance scales with higher-end systems. Check Xbox on PC for that general guidance.
Find your PC’s specifications and free space
Use your computer’s system information to identify its CPU, graphics card, installed RAM, and Windows version. Check available disk space on the drive where you plan to install the game. If you are unsure which graphics card is in the PC, find its exact model before comparing it with the listing; a name like a manufacturer or series alone may cover cards with different capabilities.

Steam’s troubleshooting guidance recommends comparing your machine’s specifications with the game’s store-page requirements and cautions that systems at or near those requirements can encounter performance or launch problems. Read Steam Support’s advice for games that do not run after “Preparing to Launch”.
Use a compatibility checker only as a screening aid
A service such as Can I Run It can organize a comparison of CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage and flag potential bottlenecks. Its result is not a guarantee that the game will launch, run smoothly, or reach a particular frame rate or graphics setting. For the final game-specific check, use the current official listing and publisher guidance.

What to do if your PC misses a requirement
- Identify which specific requirement is not met, rather than treating a general “can’t run it” result as a diagnosis.
- Check the game publisher’s support information and your PC manufacturer’s guidance before considering a hardware change.
- Do not infer a suitable upgrade from the game’s requirements alone. The right option depends on the exact game and computer.
Check Xbox Play Anywhere PC downloads separately
If you own an Xbox Play Anywhere title and want to download it on a PC, check the publisher’s minimum requirements for that PC game first. Microsoft specifically advises users to do this; console availability does not by itself establish that a particular PC meets the PC version’s requirements.
