Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check app for the clearest answer: open it on your Windows 10 PC, choose Check now in the Windows 11 eligibility section, then review the detailed results to see which requirements passed or failed. You can also check Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. A PC may meet the requirements even if Windows Update has not offered the upgrade yet.
Check eligibility with PC Health Check
- Install or open Microsoft’s PC Health Check app.
- In the Windows 11 eligibility section, select Check now.
- Read the result and open the detailed results. They identify requirements the PC meets and any that it does not.
Microsoft describes this as a way to see whether your device can run Windows 11 and, if it is not eligible, why. The app also provides information about possible next steps.

Use Windows Update as a second check
On Windows 10, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. Windows Update may show an eligibility message or offer the upgrade if it is available for your device. This is a useful built-in signal, but a missing offer by itself does not prove that the PC fails a hardware requirement. Microsoft says rollout timing varies, and a compatibility issue that could disrupt the upgrade experience can temporarily delay an offer. See Microsoft’s Windows 11 upgrade guidance.
| Check | What it tells you | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| PC Health Check | A focused eligibility result with details about failed requirements. | It does not check the graphics card or display. |
| Windows Update | Whether Windows currently reports eligibility or offers the upgrade. | A missing offer does not, on its own, show which requirement is unmet or prove the PC is ineligible. |
What Windows 11 checks
Microsoft’s current Windows 11 system requirements include these minimums:
#1 Best Overall
- Model: Dell OptiPlex 7050 Small Form Factor (SFF)
- Processor: Intel Core i7-7700 3.60 GHz
- Memory: 32GB DDR4 Ram
- Storage: 1TB Solid State Drive (SSD) Fast Boot + Storage
- Operating System: Windows 11 Pro (64-bit)
- Processor: 1 GHz or faster, with at least two cores, and on Microsoft’s approved processor list.
- Memory: 4 GB RAM.
- Storage: 64 GB or larger.
- Firmware and security: UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capability and TPM version 2.0.
- Graphics: DirectX 12 or later compatible graphics with a WDDM 2.0 driver.
- Display: A high-definition display larger than 9 inches.
These thresholds are published by Microsoft on its Windows 11 System Requirements page. PC Health Check does not verify the graphics card or display, so its pass result is not an independent check of those two items. Microsoft’s Windows 11 specifications page also notes that Windows 11 Home and Pro for personal use require internet connectivity and a Microsoft account during initial setup. For an upgrade through Windows Update, Microsoft specifies Windows 10 version 2004 or later.
What to do if the check reports a problem
Processor
Check the exact processor model against Microsoft’s approved processor list and the requirements page. A processor that is too old or not supported is often the deciding factor. Microsoft notes that processor clock speed and core count are inherent to the manufactured processor and are not upgradeable components.

TPM or Secure Boot
Some computers may support TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot through a firmware setting, but availability and menu names depend on the manufacturer and model. Check your PC maker’s documentation or support before changing firmware settings; do not assume every device has the same option or follow generic BIOS instructions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

RAM or storage may be upgradeable on some computers, but compatibility and upgrade options are model-specific. Confirm the exact part and whether installation is supported with the manufacturer before buying anything.

If you changed hardware recently
After a hardware change, Windows Update’s eligibility information can take up to 24 hours to refresh. Microsoft explains how to check requirements again in its article on checking Windows 11 requirements after changing device hardware.

Keep Windows 10 support in mind
Microsoft states that support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025. After that date, Microsoft no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Microsoft says the PC will continue to work and recommends moving to Windows 11. Check eligibility before deciding whether to upgrade or consider another option.
