The reliable way to check is to start with the requirements of the specific PlayStation 5 emulator and then verify your computer against them. KytyPS5’s current project requirements call for Windows 10 version 1803 or newer, a current Linux distribution, or macOS on Apple Silicon; a 64-bit x86 processor (or Apple Silicon using Rosetta 2 on macOS); and a graphics processor whose current driver exposes Vulkan 1.3. Those checks establish only that your computer meets the project’s published platform baseline. They do not prove that a particular game will boot, run at a useful speed, or avoid graphical errors.
Use the checklist below to identify your operating system, CPU architecture, graphics processor, driver and Vulkan support, then check compatibility for the exact game and emulator build. Do not substitute PlayStation 5 console specifications for host-PC requirements.

What you are actually checking
A PS5 emulator is software that translates console instructions for a computer. Its requirements are therefore set by the emulator project’s operating-system support, processor architecture, graphics API and driver expectations. They are not interchangeable between projects, and a future build may change them.

| Area | Published KytyPS5 baseline | What your check must establish |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 version 1803 | Your installed Windows release is version 1803 or newer and is 64-bit. |
| Linux | A current Linux distribution | Your distribution is current enough for the project and its graphics stack is working. |
| macOS | Apple Silicon | Your Mac uses an Apple Silicon processor and can use Rosetta 2 as described by the project. |
| CPU architecture | 64-bit x86, or Apple Silicon with Rosetta 2 on macOS | The host architecture matches one of the project’s supported paths. |
| Graphics API | Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with current drivers | The installed driver reports Vulkan 1.3, not merely that the card is modern or supports another API. |
The project does not publish a specific minimum CPU model, host-RAM capacity, graphics-card model, VRAM capacity, frame-rate target or universal performance tier in the cited requirements. Treat those omissions as limits on what the checklist can promise, rather than filling them with guesses.
First identify the emulator and the build
Before checking hardware, write down the emulator project and the build you intend to use. Open its current README or requirements page and note the supported operating systems, architecture, graphics API, driver notes and any game-specific instructions. A requirement from one project cannot certify another project.
Also record the build number or release date. Compatibility reports are meaningful only when they refer to the same emulator build you plan to run. A game that worked in one build may regress in another, while a later build may fix a boot or rendering problem.

Check a Windows PC step by step
1. Confirm the Windows version
- Press
Windows+R, enterwinver, and press Enter. Record the Windows version and OS build shown in the dialog. - Alternatively, open Settings > System > About and read Windows specifications.
- Compare the result with KytyPS5’s Windows baseline of version 1803. A newer release satisfies the version part of that baseline; an older release does not.
Version compatibility is only one gate. Windows can be new enough while its graphics driver is too old or its processor is the wrong architecture.
2. Confirm a 64-bit processor and operating system
- In Settings > System > About, find System type. It should identify a 64-bit operating system and an x64-based processor.
- For a fuller record, press
Windows+R, entermsinfo32, and inspect System Type, Processor and Installed Physical Memory.
A 64-bit Windows installation on an x64 processor meets the architecture check. The processor name itself is not a published KytyPS5 minimum, so do not turn a particular model into an official pass or fail without a project statement.
3. Identify the graphics processor
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc, select Performance, and choose each GPU entry. Record the model and driver version. - You can also open
dxdiagfromWindows+R, select the Display or Render tab, and record the adapter name, driver date and driver version. - If the computer has integrated and discrete graphics, record both. The emulator may launch on the integrated adapter even when the discrete adapter is the one you intend to use.
The model name alone does not answer the Vulkan question. The driver attached to the adapter is what exposes the API to applications.

4. Verify Vulkan 1.3
If the Vulkan tools are installed, open Command Prompt or PowerShell and run vulkaninfo --summary. Look for the reported Vulkan instance and device API versions. A result showing Vulkan 1.3 for the adapter you will use supports the published requirement.
Recommended Free Tools
If Windows says that vulkaninfo is not recognized, that means the diagnostic utility is not installed; it does not prove that the GPU lacks Vulkan. Install the Vulkan diagnostic tools through the graphics vendor’s official driver or SDK documentation, or use the Vulkan information panel supplied with that driver. Check the adapter actually selected by the emulator when more than one GPU is present.
Do not treat DirectX support, a high model number or a large amount of video memory as a substitute for a Vulkan 1.3 report. They measure different capabilities.
5. Update the graphics driver before testing
Install the latest stable driver offered for the exact GPU from its manufacturer, then restart Windows. Re-run the Vulkan check after the restart. An old driver can hide a supported Vulkan version, expose an incomplete implementation or cause rendering faults that look like an emulator incompatibility.
Check a Linux PC
1. Identify the distribution and kernel
- Open a terminal and run
cat /etc/os-release. Record the distribution and release. - Run
uname -m. A result ofx86_64confirms a 64-bit x86 host. - Compare the distribution with the emulator project’s current Linux guidance. “Current Linux distribution” is deliberately broader than a single named release, so use the project’s own support notes for your installed version.
2. Identify the GPU and active driver
Run lspci | grep -E "VGA|3D|Display" to list the graphics adapters. Then inspect the desktop’s hardware-information panel or your distribution’s driver utility to determine which driver is active. Hybrid-laptop systems may list an integrated adapter and a discrete adapter separately.

With the Vulkan tools installed, run vulkaninfo --summary. Confirm that the device selected for emulation reports Vulkan 1.3. If the command is missing, install the Vulkan information package using your distribution’s normal package manager, then repeat the check. If no Vulkan device appears, repair the driver installation before interpreting a game failure.

On Linux, a successful command is not enough if it describes the wrong GPU. Review the device name in the output and make sure the emulator is configured to use that same adapter.
Check a Mac
Confirm Apple Silicon
- Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. The processor line identifies whether the Mac uses Apple Silicon.
- In Terminal,
uname -mnormally returnsarm64on an Apple Silicon Mac. An Intel Mac reportsx86_64and does not match the Apple Silicon path described for KytyPS5.
The project describes Apple Silicon support with Rosetta 2. Follow the project’s current installation instructions to confirm that Rosetta 2 is installed and that the emulator is being launched through the supported path. Do not assume that an Intel Mac becomes eligible because it can run older macOS software.
Confirm the graphics API path
Use the emulator project’s macOS instructions and diagnostics to verify that the graphics device and driver path expose the required Vulkan 1.3 capability. macOS graphics details can differ from Windows and Linux, so a generic “Metal supported” label is not by itself a Vulkan 1.3 result. If the project reports a missing Vulkan device or API version, resolve that issue before testing games.

Vulkan 1.3 is an API capability check. It tells you that the driver presents the version of Vulkan named in KytyPS5’s baseline. It does not state how quickly the GPU will render a particular game, whether a game’s shaders will compile correctly or whether the emulator implements the console features that game needs.
A computer can therefore pass all three baseline checks—supported operating system, supported architecture and Vulkan 1.3—yet fail to boot a specific title. Conversely, a newer or faster graphics card cannot compensate for an unsupported operating system, a missing Vulkan implementation or an emulator feature that the game requires.
Do not use PS5 console memory as a PC requirement
The PlayStation 5 manual for the CFI-21XX model family lists 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. That is memory inside the console and is not an official host-PC RAM minimum for an emulator. It cannot be converted into a rule that a computer with 16 GB of system RAM, or a graphics card with 16 GB of VRAM, will run PS5 software.

KytyPS5’s cited requirements do not name a minimum host-RAM amount, a minimum VRAM amount, a CPU model, a GPU model or a guaranteed frame rate. Check the project’s current documentation for any later additions instead of inventing a tier from the console specification.
Check the exact game and emulator build
After the platform checks pass, find the project’s community game-test results or compatibility list and search for the exact title. Match the emulator build, operating system and relevant notes as closely as possible. A result for a different build, a different operating system or a different edition is evidence, not a guarantee.
KytyPS5 describes itself as early-stage and says users should expect crashes, graphical glitches, low compatibility and poor performance. That warning applies even to systems that satisfy the published baseline. Compatibility can change as code, drivers and game-specific fixes change.
When a title is listed as untested, do not infer a result from its console popularity or from another game using the same engine. The useful answer may remain “unknown until tested,” rather than “yes” or “no.”
A cautious first-launch procedure
- Back up save data and configuration files before experimenting with a new build.
- Install the emulator from its official project distribution and record the build identifier.
- Use the project’s recommended graphics backend and default settings for the first launch.
- Start the game and note whether it reaches the title screen, loads a save, renders correctly and maintains usable input.
- Record the operating system, CPU architecture, GPU model, driver version, emulator build and exact symptom. These details make a compatibility report actionable.
Do not judge compatibility from a single splash screen. A game may boot but fail when a scene, shader, cutscene or save is loaded.
Diagnose a failed check
The operating system is too old or unsupported
Upgrade only when the emulator project lists the resulting release as supported. If the computer cannot run a supported release, changing graphics settings will not satisfy the platform requirement. A current Linux distribution still needs a working Vulkan stack, and a supported macOS release still needs the Apple Silicon path described by the project.

The processor architecture does not match
An x86 32-bit system does not satisfy a 64-bit x86 requirement. An Intel Mac does not become Apple Silicon through a software update. Record the architecture exactly as reported by the operating system before spending money on a GPU.
Vulkan 1.3 is missing
First determine whether the diagnostic tool is missing, the wrong adapter is selected or the driver is outdated. Install the current driver for the exact adapter, reboot and run the Vulkan check again. If the adapter still reports an older Vulkan version, it does not meet the published KytyPS5 graphics baseline.
The emulator launches but graphics are broken
Confirm that the emulator is using the GPU whose Vulkan report you inspected, then update the driver and return to the project’s default graphics settings. Capture logs and the complete configuration before changing multiple options. A rendering glitch may be an emulator implementation problem rather than evidence that the computer lacks raw GPU power.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The game crashes or performs poorly
Compare the symptom with current reports for the same game and build. If the project’s status warns of crashes, glitches, low compatibility and poor performance, a crash can remain an expected limitation even after every hardware check passes. Avoid presenting a faster GPU purchase as a guaranteed fix when the documentation provides no performance tier.
Compare two PCs without inventing a performance ranking
When choosing between computers, compare the evidence in this order:
- Supported operating system and version.
- 64-bit x86 architecture, or the supported Apple Silicon and Rosetta 2 path on macOS.
- GPU driver reporting Vulkan 1.3 on the adapter the emulator will use.
- Current compatibility reports for the same game and emulator build.
- Observed stability and performance reports that identify the same operating system, driver and build.
The first three items are eligibility checks. The last two determine whether a particular game is usable. The published documentation does not establish a universal minimum performance class or a ranking that would let you label one otherwise eligible PC “PS5-emulator ready” in every case.
If you own a PS5, consider Remote Play
Sony documents PlayStation Remote Play as a way to control a PS5 from a PC or Mac over a network. It requires the console and streams the console’s output; it does not emulate PS5 software on the computer. This is a different solution for someone who already owns a PS5 and wants to play from a computer screen.
Your final pass/fail checklist
- You identified the exact emulator project and build.
- Your operating system and version appear in that project’s supported list.
- Your computer uses a supported 64-bit architecture.
- Your selected graphics adapter’s current driver reports Vulkan 1.3.
- You updated the graphics driver and rebooted before testing.
- You checked compatibility for the exact game and emulator build.
- You treated crashes, glitches, low compatibility and poor performance as possible project limitations, not automatically as a defective PC.
If every item is satisfied, your PC meets KytyPS5’s published baseline for platform and API support. The remaining question is game compatibility, which must be answered title by title and build by build.
