To check whether your PC can run a game, compare your computer’s hardware and software with that game’s official PC requirements. On Windows, DxDiag can show key system and display details. A match against the minimum requirements is a baseline—not a promise of a particular frame rate or smooth performance.
Find the game’s official PC requirements
Open the game’s listing or support page from its publisher or the store where you plan to buy it. Look for the PC requirements for that exact game; another title’s specs or a general “gaming PC” guideline is not a reliable substitute.

Requirements and wording vary by game. Keep the publisher’s stated CPU and GPU models in view so you can compare them with your actual components.

Check your PC’s details in Windows
DxDiag, the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, is a built-in way to inspect system and display information. Microsoft’s instructions for Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11 explain how to find the DirectX version using this tool: Microsoft: Which version of DirectX is on your PC?
- Search Windows for dxdiag and open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
- Use the System tab to note details such as your Windows edition, processor, installed memory, and DirectX version.
- Use the Display tab to identify the graphics device. If the tool offers a 64-bit report option, you can save a report to review or share your system details.
For game troubleshooting, EA also recommends checking the game’s minimum requirements and graphics driver, and explains how to create a DxDiag report: EA Help: Diagnose PC game issues using DxDiag. Compare matching components, not broad labels
Line up each requirement with the corresponding detail from your PC. Check the full CPU and GPU model names: a shared brand or product-family name alone does not establish that two parts perform alike. Then compare memory, available storage, operating system, and DirectX version wherever the game lists them.
- CPU: Compare your processor model with the listed minimum and recommended processor.
- GPU: Compare the graphics device model—not just the manufacturer—with the listed graphics card.
- RAM and storage: Check installed memory and whether enough storage space is available for the game.
- Operating system and DirectX: Confirm that your Windows version and DirectX meet any stated requirements.
Interpret minimum and recommended requirements separately
Meeting the minimum requirements is a useful indication that your PC may be able to run the game at a basic level. It does not guarantee smooth play, a particular frame rate, or any specific graphics setting. Recommended requirements describe a separate target; do not treat them as interchangeable with minimums or as a guaranteed performance result.

A requirements comparison is not a benchmark. The listed specs alone do not establish how the game will perform on your specific PC or at the settings you want.

Third-party services can make a first-pass comparison easier, but they are not the publisher’s source of truth. Check its detected PC details against DxDiag and confirm the game’s requirements on the publisher’s or store’s listing; automated results can rely on incomplete or outdated information.

If your PC falls short, identify the gap first
Note which specific requirement your PC does not meet. Whether an upgrade would help depends on that component, your PC, and the settings you want; the game title by itself is not enough to recommend a particular upgrade. If you are unsure how a listed component compares, verify its exact model before deciding whether to buy the game or change your hardware.
