To check whether your iPhone or iPad supports Apple Intelligence, first confirm its exact model, then check Apple’s current software, language, storage, and regional requirements. Apple’s current list includes iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 models and later, and iPhone Air. On iPad, it includes iPad mini (A17 Pro) and models with M1 or later. A compatible model is necessary, but it does not guarantee that every feature will be available.
Check the exact model you own
Start with the device’s model name rather than its age, price, or appearance. Apple’s instructions for identifying an iPhone or iPad model can help you confirm the model if you are unsure. Compare that exact model with Apple’s Apple Intelligence compatibility and availability list.

Supported iPhone models

- iPhone Air
The regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are not included in Apple’s listed iPhone models. A newer-looking or more expensive device should not be assumed compatible unless it appears on Apple’s list.

For an iPad, the chip or specific model matters: “iPad” by itself is not enough to establish support.

Check the software, language, storage, and region
Meeting Apple’s hardware list is only the first check. Its current guidance specifies iOS 27 for iPhone and iPadOS 27 for iPad; these are the documented requirements now, not a guarantee that the required version will stay the same as Apple updates the feature.
Make the device and Siri languages match
Apple requires the device language and Siri language to be the same supported language. Its current list includes English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Language support can be narrower for individual features.

If you change Siri’s language, Apple says Apple Intelligence may be unavailable until the new Siri language has fully downloaded and matches the device language. Check both language settings if the feature disappears after a change.

Allow for storage requirements
Apple’s current guidance says supported devices require up to 8 GB of storage in most cases, and up to 14 GB for specified newer hardware configurations. These are Apple’s stated storage requirements, not a universal amount for every model; the requirement can change. If storage is tight, free space and check Apple’s latest guidance for your device.

Consider where the device was bought and where you are using it
Availability varies by region and feature. Apple currently says Apple Intelligence does not work on supported devices purchased in China mainland. It also does not work on devices purchased elsewhere when the user is in China mainland and their Apple Account country or region is China mainland. Check Apple’s current availability guidance for your location and account circumstances.
On iPad, look for the Apple Intelligence control
On an iPad, open Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri. Apple says the option shown can depend on the iPadOS version and whether Apple Intelligence was previously set up. If you do not see the control, check the model, software version, matching supported languages, storage, and regional availability before concluding there is a hardware problem.

What to do if the device seems eligible but Apple Intelligence is missing
- Confirm the exact model using Apple’s model-identification instructions, then compare it with the compatibility list.
- Install the current required iOS or iPadOS version listed by Apple.
- Verify that the device language and Siri language match and are both supported. If you just changed Siri’s language, allow its download to finish.
- Check available storage against Apple’s current requirement for your hardware.
- Review regional availability, including the China mainland conditions, then look for the control again. On iPad, use Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
Apple can change its supported models, operating-system requirements, languages, storage needs, and regional availability as it updates Apple Intelligence. Its compatibility and availability page is the best place to recheck those details.
