To check whether your iPhone can install the latest iOS version, identify its model in Settings > General > About, compare it with Apple’s current compatibility guide, then open Settings > General > Software Update. Apple says this screen shows updates compatible with your specific iPhone. Back up your important information before installing an update.
Find your iPhone model and installed iOS version
- Open Settings.
- Tap General, then About.
- Read Model Name to identify your iPhone, and check iOS Version to see the version currently installed.

Compare your model with Apple’s current iOS 27 list
At the time of this article’s update, Apple’s current iPhone User Guide lists these models as compatible with iOS 27:
- iPhone 11: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
- iPhone 12: iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
- iPhone 13: iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
- iPhone 14: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
- iPhone 15: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
- iPhone 16: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, and iPhone 16e.
- iPhone 17: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17e.
- iPhone 18: iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
- iPhone SE: iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone SE (3rd generation).

Check which update Apple offers your iPhone
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- Review the version and instructions shown on the screen. Apple says it displays only updates compatible with that iPhone.
- If an update is offered, back up important information, then follow the onscreen steps. When available, Apple’s download instructions say to tap Download and Install.
A phone running an earlier iOS version may need to install the offered update before it can proceed to another version. For automatic updates, open Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates. Apple says an automatic installation can happen overnight when the iPhone is charging and connected to Wi-Fi, with a notification beforehand. See Apple’s iOS download instructions.
