Check the operating airline’s flight-status page or app using your flight number and travel date. Then check the departure and arrival airports’ official status pages, and recheck the airline’s update before leaving for the airport. An airspace closure notice explains a restriction; it does not tell you whether your specific flight will depart, be rerouted, delayed or cancelled.
Check your flight in this order
- Find the operating airline. For a codeshare, look for the carrier actually operating the flight, not just the airline whose code appears on your ticket.
- Search the airline’s official flight-status tool by flight number and travel date. Check the email address and phone number on your booking for direct messages, and enable airline alerts if available. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia advises passengers affected by airspace disruption to check directly with their respective airline before setting off for the airport: CAAM travel advisory.
- Cross-check both airports. Consult the official departure and arrival airport status pages for airport-wide disruption. These pages add context, but the airline is the more specific source for your booked flight.
- Read the airline’s stated action. Look for whether the flight is operating as scheduled, delayed, retimed, rerouted or cancelled. A closure near a route does not by itself establish which outcome applies to your flight.
- Check again before you travel to the airport. Operational plans can change. Follow the airline’s latest instructions, including any revised departure time, airport guidance or rebooking directions.
What a closure notice or NOTAM can—and cannot—tell you
A NOTAM is an aeronautical notice about an abnormal status, change or hazard relevant to flight operations. The FAA explains that NOTAMs use specialized language and are intended for operational use; they are not passenger-specific booking updates. See the FAA’s What is a NOTAM?

The FAA’s Prohibitions, Restrictions and Notices page lists restrictions and notices affecting particular places and flight information regions. It can help explain why a route may change, but it does not identify whether an individual passenger flight is departing.

Airlines may use contingency arrangements or other routes, so the scope or duration of a closure is not a dependable proxy for the status of every scheduled flight. See ICAO’s statement on aviation operations and its statement on state sovereignty over airspace and safety assessments.
#1 Best Overall
- No Adapters: Built with dual "PJ" headset plugs, the PJ2+ is the only portable COM radio that doesn't require an adapter to operate.
- Simple: There's no time to waste in an emergency situation, so the PJ2+ was designed for ease of operation with no complex menus, just power it on and enter your intended frequency.
- Comfortable: Designed with large, easy to press buttons, the PJ2+ can be operated with just one hand while you fly the aircraft.
- Reliable: Powered by six AA batteries, the PJ2+ can remain charged for long periods of time without issue, or you can use the included USB-A to USB-C cable for direct power from your aircraft.
- Powerful: Rated for up to 6 Watts peak-emitting-power (PEP) for your transmissions, the PJ2+ consistently provides clear communications you need it most.
If the airline changes or cancels your flight
Use the airline’s official rebooking or refund process and keep your booking confirmation and disruption messages. Refund, alternative travel, care and compensation are different remedies; which ones apply depends on the route, carrier, governing rules and circumstances. An airspace closure alone does not establish a right to compensation.
- United States: U.S. Department of Transportation guidance says a passenger is entitled to a refund when the airline cancels and the passenger chooses not to travel or accept a credit or voucher. Check DOT’s refund guidance.
- Flights covered by EC Regulation 261/2004: Italy’s civil aviation authority, ENAC, describes a choice between reimbursement and alternative flight options, plus care in specified circumstances. Compensation depends on the applicable conditions. See ENAC’s cancellation-rights guidance.
- Canada: The Air Passenger Protection Regulations list a NOTAM among examples of circumstances outside a carrier’s control and set out obligations for covered disruptions. The consequences depend on how the regulation applies to the particular case. Consult section 10 of the regulations.
For travel in another jurisdiction, consult the relevant passenger-rights authority and the airline’s notice. If you have travel insurance, review the policy’s exact terms after a disruption rather than assuming every closure is covered.
