On your Chromebook, open Settings > Apps > Manage Google Play preferences. If that option is missing, Google says the Chromebook does not support Android apps. If it is present, the Chromebook supports the Play Store, but an individual app may still be incompatible.
Check for Google Play Store support
- Select the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Manage Google Play preferences.
Google’s Chromebook instructions say: “If you can’t find this option, your Chromebook doesn’t work with Android apps.” Google makes the Play Store available on only some Chromebooks, so the model name alone is not enough to establish support.

Update ChromeOS and check again
Google recommends updating ChromeOS before setting up Android apps. Check for updates, install any available update, and then look again under Settings > Apps.
Check whether the Chromebook is managed
On a work or school Chromebook, an administrator may prevent Play Store access or Android app downloads. Google notes that users on managed devices might not be able to add the Play Store; contact your school or workplace administrator if the setting remains unavailable.

The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
Check whether a particular Android app works
Device support and app compatibility are separate. If the Play Store setting is available, open the Play Store on the Chromebook and search for the app. The store displays apps compatible with that device. On the Google Play website, an app that cannot be installed may appear greyed out.
Availability can depend on the app’s requirements, your location, screen size, Android version, and the developer’s compatibility settings. Google’s Google Play compatibility guidance recommends contacting the app developer for questions about a particular app.

What “Your device is not compatible with this version” means
That message means the Chromebook cannot download that particular app; it does not by itself mean the Chromebook lacks Android support altogether. For example, an app may require GPS when the Chromebook does not have GPS. Check the app’s requirements or ask its developer about compatibility.

Google says eligible Chromebook models released before 2021 may opt into extended updates for a total of 10 years of automatic updates from the platform release. The opt-in has a specific tradeoff: Google says devices receiving extended updates lose the ability to run Android apps, and the Play Store is removed. If you do not opt in, those features remain, although app developers may stop supporting the device over time.
