To check whether a browser is still redirecting you, note what triggers the unfamiliar page, whether it happens on one site or many, and whether it occurs in one browser or across browsers. Then review site permissions, extensions, and startup, home-page, and search settings. A redirect is a symptom—not proof by itself that your device is infected.
Start by identifying the redirect pattern
Before changing settings, write down the browser and device, what you were doing just before the redirect, and where it sent you. Don’t revisit a suspicious page just to reproduce the problem. The trigger and scope help separate a site-specific issue from a browser setting or a possible device-wide problem.

- One site or many? A problem confined to one site points to a different first check than redirects across unrelated sites.
- What triggered it? Note whether it began on browser launch, after a search, after clicking a link, or as a notification.
- One browser or several? If the behavior appears in multiple browsers, include that in your notes; it may help distinguish a browser-specific setting from a website or network issue.
- Did a setting or extension change? An unfamiliar extension or an unpermitted change to the home page or search engine makes unwanted software a more serious possibility.
This is a practical way to organize the symptoms, not a test that can prove malware is present or absent.

Chrome on a computer
In Chrome, open Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Pop-ups and redirects. Review sites allowed to send pop-ups or redirects and remove permissions for sites you do not recognize. Chrome treats notifications separately: a site may still send notifications if you subscribed to them, even after you address pop-ups. Review notification permissions too, and remove unfamiliar sites there.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Pop-ups, redirects, and notifications are related but distinct behaviors. A notification that opens or promotes a page does not necessarily mean ordinary page navigation is being redirected.
Chrome’s desktop instructions are not universal mobile instructions; browser menus and controls vary by device and version. See Google’s Chrome instructions for blocking or allowing pop-ups.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Review extensions and browser settings
Look for extensions you do not recognize or no longer need, then check whether your startup pages, home page, or search engine changed without your permission. Disable or remove suspicious extensions and restore settings you recognize. Mozilla notes that add-ons and bundled download managers can be routes for search hijacking, which can redirect home pages, search results, or error pages. Its guidance also cautions that Firefox’s hijacking detection is not completely accurate; an automatic reset is not conclusive proof that the problem is fixed.

In Microsoft Edge, extensions that try to change important settings without permission may be disabled automatically. That protection does not establish that the browser or device is otherwise clean. Microsoft’s general troubleshooting also suggests updating Edge, disabling extensions, scanning the device for malware, and testing another browser to help narrow down whether a problem is browser-, network-, or website-related; it is not a redirect-specific removal procedure.

Find out whether the problem belongs to one site
If a single page displays ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS or a similar redirect-loop message, the page may be redirecting repeatedly. Cookies can also sometimes prevent a page from opening correctly. That error on one site is not, on its own, evidence of a device-wide browser hijack. Check the site’s behavior and its cookies before treating the issue as a broader infection.
Chrome explains the redirect-loop and cookie issue in its guide to common error messages.

If redirects continue, check the device
If unfamiliar navigation keeps happening across unrelated sites, or returns alongside unexpected extensions or changed browser settings, check the device for unwanted software. Chrome recommends checking for unwanted programs before resetting browser settings. Google’s account guidance also recommends updating the operating system and checking account security; if malware symptoms continue, resetting the computer or contacting the manufacturer may be necessary. Microsoft likewise includes a malware scan in its general Edge troubleshooting.
Use your operating system’s built-in security tools or its official support guidance. Avoid installing a scanner or “cleanup” utility offered by an unsolicited pop-up.

Reset Chrome only after understanding what changes
A Chrome reset can help restore browser settings, but it is not a substitute for removing unwanted software from the device. Google says the reset changes settings such as the search engine, home page and startup pages, content settings, cookies and site data, extensions, and themes. Saved bookmarks and passwords are not deleted or changed.
Before resetting, note any custom settings you want to restore. Read Google’s explanation of what resetting Chrome changes.
Don’t trust security or update prompts in suspicious pop-ups
Some Safari pop-ups use phishing tactics or deceptive claims about security, updates, or downloads. Don’t click their links or install what they offer. If a pop-up persists, Apple advises navigating elsewhere by entering a new URL or search term in Safari’s Search field. Get updates and support through the browser maker’s official channels, and keep your software up to date. Apple’s guidance covers Safari pop-ups and deceptive prompts, rather than every possible Safari redirect problem: Block pop-up ads and windows in Safari.
