To check whether wireless earbuds support an audio feature on your phone, verify the exact phone model and operating-system version, the exact earbud model and generation, and the feature you want. Then confirm that the phone maker and earbud maker document support for that combination. Bluetooth pairing proves basic connection—not support for features such as spatial audio, head tracking, LE Audio, or lossless playback.
Start with the exact feature and device models
“Compatible” can mean only that earbuds can pair and play audio. Advanced features may have separate requirements for the phone, earbuds, operating system, companion app, firmware, or region. Check the named feature rather than relying on a general compatibility statement or the product brand.

- Identify your phone. Record its exact model and installed operating-system version.
- Identify your earbuds. Record the exact model and generation; products with similar names may differ in feature support.
- Name what you want to use. Examples include Spatial Audio, head tracking, LE Audio or LC3, Auracast broadcast audio, audio sharing, multipoint, and lossless playback.
- Check both manufacturers’ documentation. Look for the feature on the phone maker’s support page and the earbud maker’s page, including any listed model, OS, app, firmware, or region requirements.
- Pair and check the feature’s setting. A relevant setting or status can help confirm availability after you have checked the requirements, but its appearance alone is not authoritative proof for every device combination.
- Resolve gaps with the manufacturer. If support is not explicitly documented for your exact combination, treat it as unconfirmed and ask the manufacturer before counting on it.
Check spatial audio and head tracking separately
Spatial audio and head tracking are not interchangeable claims. A product may support spatial audio without the phone-and-earbud combination supporting head tracking. Android’s spatial-audio implementation guidance covers Android 13 and higher together with compatible headsets that have head-tracking sensors; that platform guidance is not a promise that every Android phone and headset pairing supports the feature. See Android’s spatial audio implementation guidance.

Google gives a narrower, model-specific example: “Spatial Audio with head tracking is compatible with Google Pixel Buds Pro and Pro 2 with Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, or newer Pixel phones.” Check Google’s Spatial Audio and head tracking requirements for that combination. This is not a universal Android compatibility rule.

Apple’s AirPods (3rd generation) specifications list Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking and Bluetooth 5.0. The listing illustrates why the exact earbud specification matters: the Bluetooth version by itself does not establish which audio features work with a particular phone. See Apple’s AirPods (3rd generation) specifications, and check the target phone’s documentation too.
Do not infer LE Audio or Auracast from a Bluetooth version
A Bluetooth version number is not a complete feature checklist. Android identifies Android 13 as including built-in support for LE Audio, but using a feature still depends on compatible devices and the specific capability each supports. The Bluetooth SIG notes that devices may implement Bluetooth Classic and LE Audio separately. Look for explicit documentation of LE Audio, LC3, or Auracast on both the phone and earbuds rather than assuming that a Bluetooth version guarantees them. See Android’s LE Audio overview and the Bluetooth SIG’s LE Audio information.

Separate Bluetooth pairing from ecosystem features
Some earbuds pair with phones outside their maker’s ecosystem, while certain features may require a particular phone, operating system, or app. Apple provides instructions for pairing AirPods with Android and other non-Apple devices over Bluetooth. That confirms basic pairing, not that every AirPods feature works on Android. Check Apple’s instructions for connecting AirPods to a non-Apple device, then look up each desired feature separately.
Understand what “lossless” means over Bluetooth
A lossless streaming source does not make the wireless Bluetooth transmission lossless. Apple states, “Bluetooth connections aren’t lossless,” and says AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and Beats wireless headphones use the Apple AAC Bluetooth Codec. For Apple Music, distinguish the source or file quality from the quality delivered over the Bluetooth connection. See Apple’s guidance on playing lossless audio in Music on iPhone.

What to do when the answer is unclear
- Search the manufacturer’s support pages for the exact feature name and device model—not just “compatible.”
- Check for minimum OS versions, specific phone models, companion-app requirements, firmware updates, and regional limitations.
- For wireless capabilities, look for the named standard or codec, such as LE Audio or LC3, and confirm it for both devices.
- If the documentation describes only Bluetooth pairing or lists a Bluetooth version, do not treat that as confirmation of an advanced feature.
- If the exact pairing is not documented, ask the manufacturer whether that feature works with your precise phone model, OS version, earbud generation, and current firmware.
