The key distinction: Jev itself is documented as a hosted API model, not software you install on your computer. You may have installed a local client—such as an SDK, CLI, or integration—that connects to it. If you mean a different JEV, or want operating-system-specific instructions, identify the product and your OS first.
What “installed” means for TypeSafe Jev
TypeSafe’s official model documentation describes Jev as a service accessed through POST /v1/systemone. It calls Jev “TypeSafe’s flagship model and the first System One model.” The model page lists the ID jev-1.13.0 and the alias jev-latest; TypeSafe says aliases can change when new releases ship.

That hosted model is different from software installed locally. TypeSafe lists official Python and JavaScript SDKs, which are client libraries used to make API requests. A CLI, SDK, skill, or other integration can be on your computer without the model’s weights being there. A secondary Jev guide updated September 30, 2026 reports that TypeSafe has no official desktop or mobile app and has not released Jev weights. That is the guide’s reported status as of that date, not a guarantee that availability cannot change.

Check the specific Jev client you installed
There is no single universal jev command established by these sources. The right check depends on which client you installed and how. Two third-party projects document these commands:
#1 Best Overall
| Client | Documented check | What it tells you—and does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Jev-skill project | jev-decide setup |
Checks whether a key is present and shows available configuration choices. The project says this does not authenticate the credentials. See its documentation. |
| Separate Jev integration | jev-bot doctor |
Reports driver connection, whether a key is configured, and available windows. It does not test the key or perform an action. See its documentation. |
Run a command only if you installed the corresponding project and its documentation matches your setup. A command that is missing does not prove Jev is absent; you may have installed a different client or used another installation route. Likewise, a successful diagnostic confirms only the checks that client performs.
How to interpret what you find
- A local package or command exists: that indicates a client or integration is installed, not that Jev’s model weights are local.
- A key is configured: that indicates the client found a configured value. It does not, by itself, prove the key is valid or that an API request succeeds.
- You can make a successful model request: that shows the client can reach the service and receive a response at that time; it still does not mean the model is installed locally.
- You see
jev-latestin a configuration: it is a moving alias, not a permanent version pin. Use the documented model IDjev-1.13.0when you need to specify the version listed on TypeSafe’s models page as of October 4, 2026.
When you need exact computer-specific steps
The title alone does not identify Windows, macOS, Linux, the package manager, or the Jev-related client. Check the installation instructions for the exact client you used, or provide its name and your operating system to get a more precise check. Avoid treating an unrelated package search or guessed command as a definitive test.
