Check Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard first and look for a Gemini incident that matches the feature and error you are seeing. If there is no matching notice, compare Gemini on another device, network, and browser or app. Those checks can help narrow down the cause, but a clear dashboard does not prove that every Gemini feature is working for every user.
Start with Google’s official status dashboard
Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard reports the current and past status of core Workspace services, including Gemini, and provides incident details and resolution updates. Check the Gemini entry and any recent incident history before changing settings on your device.

- Open the Google Workspace Status Dashboard.
- Find Gemini and check whether an incident is active or whether a recent incident matches the time your problem began.
- Open the incident details. Compare the affected product surface, model or feature, reported symptoms, and any updates with what you are experiencing.
A notice that matches your experience is strong evidence of a Google-side problem. For example, an incident may affect Gemini on the web or in the mobile app, a particular model, or a Workspace integration—not every way of using Gemini. Do not assume that a notice about one product surface explains a different symptom.
Google’s dashboard is useful for the services and incidents it lists, but a blank dashboard is not proof that every Gemini component is healthy. A new issue may not yet be listed, and the available official material does not establish separate live health indicators for every consumer feature, model, account type, or region.

What a clear dashboard can—and cannot—tell you
If you see no matching Gemini incident, the dashboard has not given you a confirmed service-side explanation. It has not established that the problem must be your device, either. The next step is to compare setups and see whether the failure follows a particular device, browser, app, network, or account.
Use the same Gemini task and, where possible, the same account for each comparison. Note the exact error and the product surface you tested. Changing several things at once can make the result harder to interpret.
Think of the dashboard as one piece of evidence, not a universal meter for every Gemini request. It covers the services and incidents Google chooses to list. A problem that has just started, affects a narrow group, involves a particular model, or is limited to a geographic area may not immediately appear as a broad Gemini incident. Conversely, an incident can be listed for a Workspace integration while the consumer web experience continues to work.
Run a controlled comparison
The most useful tests change one factor at a time. Keep the prompt or task, account, and Gemini surface as consistent as possible, and write down the result after each attempt. The goal is not to prove a cause with one click; it is to see whether the symptom travels with the service or stays attached to one part of your setup.
1. Try the same account on another device
Use the same account on a second device if one is available, and try the same Gemini surface or feature. If it works there but fails on the original device, the issue is more likely to be tied to the original device, its browser or app, or its connection. This is a diagnostic inference, not a guarantee that Google’s service is working normally.
If the same error appears on both devices, a single-device problem becomes less likely. A service issue, account-specific problem, or shared network issue can still be involved. If both devices are signed into different accounts, the comparison is weaker; record that difference rather than treating it as a conclusive test.
Use a simple repeatable task, such as opening the same conversation or submitting a short prompt that normally works. A failure on a complex feature but success on a basic one may indicate that the affected model or feature is narrower than a general Gemini outage.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
2. Compare networks on the same device
Keep the device, account, and Gemini surface the same, but test on a different network if you can. If Gemini works on the alternate network, the original network is a more likely part of the problem. If it fails on both, the cause may lie elsewhere. Neither result alone proves the cause.
Record which network produced each result and the time of the test. A network comparison is most informative when the browser or app, account, model, and request are unchanged. If you switch networks and browsers together, you will know that one of the changed factors matters, but not which one.
3. Compare the browser, app, or Gemini surface
If available, test a different browser or try the app instead of the web experience, or vice versa. Keep the account and task as consistent as possible. A failure limited to one browser or app points toward that setup; a failure across different surfaces makes a single-browser explanation less likely.

Do not treat different surfaces as identical tests. The dashboard may report an incident affecting Gemini Web but not the mobile app, or a Workspace side panel rather than the consumer experience. Record which surface you used so you can compare it with the incident description.

Also distinguish a model selection from the surrounding interface. If one model produces an error while another model or a basic Gemini function works, note the model name. The September 11, 2026 incident, for example, concerned elevated error rates for Gemini 3.1 Pro on Gemini Web and Gemini App; that wording does not automatically describe every model.
4. Compare account types and permissions carefully
Identify whether the account is a consumer Google account or a Google Workspace account. A Workspace account can encounter an issue in an integrated app or side panel that does not affect the consumer Gemini experience. Testing with a different account can provide a clue, but it also changes the variable being tested, so describe it as an account comparison rather than a device test.
If a feature is available only to a particular account type, a missing control is not necessarily an outage. Match the incident’s named customer group and Workspace service to your own account before drawing a conclusion.
Interpret the pattern, not one failed test
| What you observe | What it suggests | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| The dashboard lists an active incident matching your Gemini surface and symptom. | A Google-side issue is the likeliest explanation for the matching failure. | Read the affected services and incident updates; check for a resolution update. |
| Gemini fails on one device but works on another with the same account. | The original device, browser, app, or its connection is more likely involved. | Compare the original device on another network, then compare its browser or app if available. |
| Gemini fails on one network but works on another using the same device. | The original network is more likely involved. | Keep the device and Gemini surface unchanged while comparing results. |
| The same failure follows the account across devices or surfaces. | A single-device cause is less likely; a service or account-specific issue remains possible. | Check the dashboard for a matching incident and record the account type and exact error. |
| The dashboard is clear, and results differ across tests. | The tests narrow down where the problem may be, but do not conclusively identify it. | Repeat a comparison while changing only one factor at a time. |
| A model fails while another model or simpler feature works. | The disruption may be limited to that model or feature rather than all of Gemini. | Record the model name and compare it with the scope stated in any incident notice. |
| Web fails while the app works, or a Workspace side panel fails while consumer Gemini works. | The product surface or integration is more likely to be involved. | Check whether the dashboard names that exact surface and account group. |
These interpretations are troubleshooting reasoning, not official Google guarantees. A problem can be limited to a model, feature, account type, product surface, or region, and a single successful test does not rule out a separate service issue.

Before treating an incident notice as an explanation, compare its scope with your own use. Identify whether you are using Gemini on the web, the mobile app, or a Workspace integration such as the side panel. Note the model or feature if it is visible, the account type, and the wording of the error.
Read the incident timeline as well as its headline. Google may identify when elevated errors began, which users were affected, a mitigation, and a final resolution. If the notice says a recent rollout triggered the problem, that is an explanation for that event—not evidence that every future error has the same cause.
The distinction matters because a notice can describe elevated errors for a specific model or a problem in a Workspace feature. For example, Google’s September 11, 2026 incident history records intermittent elevated error rates for Gemini 3.1 Pro on Gemini Web and Gemini App. Google attributed that event to a recent rollout and said it was mitigated with a code change. The incident lasted 7 hours and 22 minutes; that is the duration of this particular event, not a typical Gemini outage or a recovery-time estimate.
A separate Google incident dated June 10, 2026 concerned “Something Went Wrong” errors for Gemini App in Workspace and Gemini Side Panel customers. Its record lists a duration of 7 hours and 10 minutes and said there was no workaround at that time. That event-specific notice does not establish how long another incident will last or whether a consumer Gemini issue has the same cause.
Those two records demonstrate why scope matters. One names Gemini 3.1 Pro on web and app; the other names Workspace customers and the side panel. A reader seeing a different error in a different surface should not assume either incident applies. Likewise, the durations do not support an average outage length. No general frequency or recovery-time statistic is established by these examples.

When the issue involves a Workspace account
For a Workspace account, check whether the notice names the particular Workspace service or integration you use. A problem with Gemini in a Workspace app or side panel may not be the same as a problem with Gemini’s consumer web or mobile experience.
Confirm the customer group in the incident record. “Workspace customers” and consumer users are not interchangeable labels, and an integration can have a separate failure path from the main Gemini interface. Capture the exact Workspace application, side panel, or model involved when you report the issue.
If a Workspace service issue persists, Google’s Workspace guidance directs users to contact Workspace support to report it. Include the matching incident details if there is one, along with the information needed to distinguish your setup and symptom. If there is no matching incident, say that you checked the dashboard and describe the comparisons you performed; do not state that Google has confirmed a service outage.

If the dashboard has no matching incident and your comparisons do not isolate the cause, preserve the details rather than guessing at a fix. A concise record helps you explain what failed and whether it was limited to one setup.
- The exact error wording, including whether it says “Something Went Wrong.”
- When the problem occurred, including the time and time zone.
- The Gemini surface involved: web, mobile app, or a Workspace feature such as the side panel.
- The model or feature, if visible.
- Whether you were using a consumer or Workspace account.
- The device and browser or app used.
- The network used and the results of any second-device or alternate-network comparison.
- Any relevant incident notice and its latest update.
Keep the wording exact. “Something Went Wrong” is more useful to support staff than a paraphrase such as “Gemini is broken.” Also note whether the error appears when signing in, loading the interface, sending a prompt, selecting a model, or using a Workspace integration. These are different product surfaces or stages of the request.
Use timestamps with a time zone, especially when comparing your experience with an incident timeline. If the issue comes and goes, record both a failed and a successful attempt. Intermittent behavior can be consistent with elevated error rates, but it can also occur when a local connection is unstable; the record alone does not decide between them.
Do not include unnecessary private conversation content in a report. The important diagnostic facts are the surface, model, account type, device, browser or app, network, exact error, and times. Share only what is needed through the appropriate support route.
Do not describe a dashboard with no incident as proof that Google has no service problem. State what you checked and what happened on each setup. That keeps a support report accurate even when the cause is still uncertain.
How to use incident history without overreading it
Incident history can show that Gemini problems have affected particular users or product surfaces, and that Google may publish a cause, mitigation, or resolution. It is not enough to calculate how often Gemini goes down or how long an outage usually lasts. The official incident examples above are individual events, and no general outage-frequency or average-recovery statistic is established here.
Use the date and scope of an old incident only as context. A past web-model incident does not predict a current Workspace side-panel incident, and a resolved event does not prove that a new error has the same cause. Look for the current incident’s own affected services, symptoms, status, and updates.

Check the live dashboard when troubleshooting rather than relying on an old status snapshot. Its displayed status can change, and the dashboard’s coverage should not be treated as a guarantee about every Gemini feature or user. A page showing no incidents at one moment can be followed by a newly reported event, while a narrow or unreported problem can remain absent from the list.
Common mistakes when checking whether Gemini is down
Assuming every Gemini failure is a total outage
A service can be degraded for one model, integration, account group, or region while other Gemini experiences work. Test the specific feature you need and read the incident scope instead of treating one error as evidence that all Gemini services are unavailable.
Treating a blank dashboard as proof of a local fault
The dashboard is authoritative for the incidents it lists, but it is not documented as an exhaustive real-time indicator for every consumer component. A clear page means you have no matching listed incident at that time; it does not prove the device, browser, or network is responsible.
Changing several variables at once
Moving to another device, another network, a new browser, and a different account in one attempt can produce a successful result without revealing why. Repeat the test with one controlled change and keep the other factors stable.
Using an unrelated support instruction as a Gemini fix
Google’s Gmail Help, for example, advises restarting a device for a Gmail “No connection” error. That is Gmail-specific guidance and should not be presented as an official Gemini remedy. Do not turn advice for another Google product into a universal Gemini troubleshooting step.

The September and June 2026 incidents lasted 7 hours and 22 minutes and 7 hours and 10 minutes, respectively. Those are event durations, not a forecast, average, or service-level promise. Wait for updates on the active incident rather than estimating a restoration time from old records.
A practical decision path
- Check the dashboard. Look for an active or recent Gemini incident and open its details.
- Match the scope. Compare the named surface, model, feature, account group, symptom, and timing with your own failure.
- If it matches, treat the problem as service-side evidence and follow the incident updates rather than repeatedly changing local settings.
- If there is no match, test the same account and task on another device, then compare another network, then another browser or app where available.
- Change one factor at a time. Record each result, including successful attempts.
- Escalate with facts. For Workspace, contact Workspace support when appropriate. Include the exact error, timestamps, surface, model, account type, device, app or browser, network, and comparison results.
This path produces a more reliable diagnosis than repeatedly retrying without recording what changed. It also leaves room for uncertainty when the dashboard is clear but the symptoms continue.
Frequently asked questions
Is Gemini down right now?
Check Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard for the current Gemini status and incident details. A page with no listed incident does not prove that every Gemini feature is working for every user, so use device, network, browser, app, and account comparisons if your problem continues.
What is the fastest way to tell whether the problem is my device?
Use the same account and Gemini task on another device. If it works there but not on the original device, the original device, browser, app, or connection is more likely involved. That result is diagnostic evidence, not a guarantee.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhy does Gemini work in the app but not on the web?
The product surfaces can have different failure modes, and an incident may name one without naming the other. Record the exact surface and check whether the dashboard incident matches it before concluding that the entire service is down.
Best Value
What does “Something Went Wrong” mean?
It is an error wording that Google used in a June 10, 2026 incident affecting Gemini App in Workspace and Gemini Side Panel customers. The wording by itself does not prove that your current failure is the same incident; compare the date, surface, account type, and incident scope.
How long do Gemini outages usually last?
No general recovery-time statistic is established here. Google’s incident history records individual events, including one lasting 7 hours and 22 minutes and another lasting 7 hours and 10 minutes, but those durations are not averages or predictions.
Who should Workspace users contact?
Google’s Workspace guidance directs users to Workspace support to report a persistent Workspace service issue. Include the incident link or status details when relevant and provide the exact setup and error information.
Should I keep changing device settings while an incident is active?
If the listed incident matches your surface and symptom, repeated local changes are unlikely to clarify the cause. Read the incident updates, note its status, and preserve your diagnostic details so you can retest after Google posts a resolution.
Bottom line
Start with Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard, then match any incident to the exact Gemini surface, model, feature, account type, symptom, and timing. If no matching notice appears, compare one variable at a time across another device, network, browser, or app. The pattern can show whether the failure is more likely local, shared by an account or network, or consistent with a service-side problem, but neither a single failed test nor a blank dashboard is conclusive. Record the evidence and use Workspace support when a Workspace issue persists.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Gemini down right now?
Check Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard for a current Gemini incident. If none is listed, compare the same task across another device, network, browser, or app because a clear dashboard does not prove every Gemini feature is healthy.
How can I tell whether my device is the problem?
Try the same account and Gemini task on another device. Success there makes the original device, browser, app, or connection more likely, but it is not conclusive proof.

Gemini Web, the mobile app, and Workspace integrations can have different incidents. Match the dashboard’s affected surface and account group to the one producing your error.
How long do Gemini outages last?
There is no established average recovery time. Google’s records include individual incidents lasting 7 hours 22 minutes and 7 hours 10 minutes, which are not general estimates.
Where should Workspace users report a persistent problem?
Google directs Workspace users to contact Workspace support. Provide the exact error, time zone, surface, model, account type, device, browser or app, network, and comparison results.
The Bottom Line
Check Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard first and match its incident scope to your Gemini surface, model, account, symptom, and timing. If there is no match, compare one factor at a time across devices, networks, and apps, then record the results. These tests narrow the possibilities but do not make a clear dashboard proof that every Gemini component is healthy.
