To check Gemini’s Google Maps connections, sign in to the account you mean and open Settings & help → Connected Apps. If that option is missing, look under Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps. Then check Keep Activity and the device’s location permission if your concern is precise location. These controls answer different questions: Gemini may use public Maps information even when no Maps connection toggle is shown, while personal Maps data and precise device location involve separate permissions and settings.
Check Connected Apps in Gemini
- Use the right account and Gemini surface. Sign in to the Gemini account you want to check, on the web or in the mobile app. Connected Apps availability and menus can differ by platform, country, language, and account type, so check the account and device you actually use.
- Open the connection settings. On the Gemini web app, go to Settings & help → Connected Apps. If Connected Apps is not listed there, check Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps. Look at the Google services shown for your account and whether the relevant service is connected. If you change a setting, follow the on-screen prompts. Google documents these routes in its Connected Apps help page.
- Check Keep Activity. Google says Keep Activity must be on for Gemini to use public information from Google Maps, Flights, Hotels, and YouTube. If Keep Activity is off, Connected Apps are unavailable on gemini.google.com and iOS; on Android, only certain listed apps remain available. The options shown can depend on your account and surface.
A missing Connected Apps menu or Maps toggle does not, by itself, prove Gemini cannot use public Maps information. Google says public information from Maps can be used automatically, separately from connected-app controls. Connected Apps settings do not switch that public-information behavior on or off. Google also says Gemini does not access personal information or content in these services without permission. See Use & manage Connected Apps in Gemini for the current account-specific details.

What kind of Maps access are you checking?
| What you mean | What to check | What Google documents |
|---|---|---|
| Public places, business details, or directions | Keep Activity and the Maps feature in Gemini | Gemini can answer place-finding questions and provide directions when you are signed in and Keep Activity is on. This is not the same as reading your saved Maps history. |
| Saved Maps information or personal account content | Connected Apps and any permission prompts shown in your account | Google distinguishes public Maps information from personal information or content, which Gemini does not access without permission. |
| Current or precise device location | Gemini’s device or browser location permission, plus relevant Google service settings | General location may be based on IP address or Home/Work details. With permission, Gemini may process precise device or browser location, and it may receive precise location from another Google service such as Maps even if the Google app’s precise-location setting is off. |
| Past Gemini activity | Gemini Activity or My Activity | Activity review and deletion are separate from Connected Apps and Maps location permissions. |
Test the Maps feature you want to use
Google’s documented Gemini Maps connection supports place discovery, business details, and directions. For example, a user can ask, “Where’s the closest coffee shop and what time does it open?” or request a park within a 10-minute drive from their current location. For place finding and directions, Google’s stated requirements are to be signed in to the Gemini app and have Keep Activity on. Details are in Find places & get directions in Gemini Apps.
Google lists these actions as unsupported through this Gemini Maps feature:
#1 Best Overall
- Saving location history.
- Using saved places other than Home or Work.
- Providing live traffic updates.
- Adding reviews to places.
That means a successful directions answer is evidence that the supported place-and-directions feature is available; it is not proof that Gemini can browse all the personal data or capabilities in your Maps account.
Check precise location separately
If your concern is whether Gemini can determine where your device is, inspect the location permission for the Gemini app or the browser you use. This is different from allowing a connected app or using public Maps listings: Google says general location can come from an IP address or Home/Work details, while precise location can be processed with device or browser permission. It also says Gemini may receive precise location from another Google service, such as Maps, even when precise location is off for the Google app.

Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub says precise location processed with device or browser permission is not stored in Gemini Apps Activity, and that location data Gemini processes is coarsened before it is stored. For Gemini Apps Activity, Google defines a “general area” as larger than 3 square kilometers and containing at least 1,000 users; this description should not be read as a universal rule for every Google service or all Maps feature storage.

Google says Ask Maps answers, Lens in Maps, and Gemini in Navigation use or collect location data, and notes that Gemini in Navigation may store location. Its settings rollout is gradual; Web & App Activity continues to control history and personalized recommendations where the newer Search settings do not yet match. Review or delete Gemini activity
To review Gemini Apps Activity on the web, Google gives the route Settings & help → Activity; you can also visit the My Activity page. From there, users can delete Gemini Apps Activity or turn Keep Activity off. These actions affect activity settings, not every possible route by which Gemini may use public Maps information or receive location data. Google’s instructions are in Manage & delete your activity in Gemini Apps.
If you use a work or school account, an administrator may control activity settings. Google also says Connected Apps and Maps/Search settings can roll out gradually and vary by language, location, device, age, and account type. Use the labels actually displayed in your account rather than assuming one switch governs all Gemini and Maps data flows.
