For live updates, Epic also points players to @FortniteStatus on X. If neither source reports a relevant issue, the problem may be your connection rather than a Fortnite-wide outage.

Open Epic Games Public Status.

Find Fortnite and check the component related to your problem. Epic lists services separately, including login, game services, parties/friends/messaging, voice chat, matchmaking, stats and leaderboards, the item shop, and Fortnite Crew.

Open any relevant incident or maintenance notice and read its latest update. The status page includes an overall indicator, individual component statuses, unresolved incidents, and scheduled maintenance that is upcoming or in progress.

Check @FortniteStatus on X for Epic’s live Fortnite updates, particularly if an incident is changing.

Epic identifies the Public Status page and @FortniteStatus as its service-status channels. A problem with one component does not necessarily mean every Fortnite service is down.
Match the status to the problem you see
Can’t log in
Check Fortnite’s login component. If it has an incident, follow the notice for updates rather than treating the issue as a local connection failure.

Can’t join a match
Check matchmaking. Epic says Matchmaking Error #5 appears when Fortnite cannot connect a player to a match, and it can result from either a server issue or a network connection problem. If matchmaking is affected, Epic recommends waiting and trying again after the issue is resolved.

Check the component that corresponds to the feature—such as voice chat, parties/friends/messaging, the item shop, or Fortnite Crew—instead of relying only on the overall Fortnite indicator.

If Epic reports an incident
Read the incident’s latest status-page update and wait for Epic to report that the affected service has recovered before retrying. For a matchmaking issue, Epic specifically recommends waiting when matchmaking is affected. The status page is the structured view of component state and incident details; @FortniteStatus is Epic’s channel for live Fortnite updates.

If matchmaking still fails, use Epic’s Matchmaking Error #5 guidance and its connection troubleshooting steps.

For high ping or unstable play, consult Epic’s latency guidance. Epic notes that network congestion and routing can affect latency, and the game server used can differ from one match to another.

A normal status indicator is not a diagnosis of an individual player’s connection or route to a particular match server. An error message by itself also does not prove Fortnite is down.
