Check your installed-software inventory for Dell System Update (DSU), then compare its version with Dell’s security threshold: versions earlier than 2.3.0.0 are affected by CVE-2026-86360; Dell lists 2.3.0.0 or later as remediated. If you find an affected version, upgrade DSU using Dell’s official download page.

How to check whether Dell System Update is installed

  1. Open the device’s installed-software inventory, or check your organization’s endpoint software inventory.
  2. Look specifically for Dell System Update or DSU. Do not assume another Dell-branded update utility is the same product.
  3. If DSU is listed, record its installed version. The security advisory does not specify an official Windows dialog path, Linux command, ESXi procedure, registry key, or file path for finding that version, so use the inventory method documented for your operating system or management system.

Dell describes DSU as a utility for deploying firmware, driver, and application updates on Linux, ESXi, and Windows-based PowerEdge systems. The advisory names DSU as the affected product but does not define a particular computer model as the boundary of exposure. See Dell’s DSU security advisory.

Which DSU versions are affected?

Dell’s advisory DSA-2026-324, initially released on 1 October 2026, identifies versions earlier than 2.3.0.0 as affected and version 2.3.0.0 or later as remediated. Use the installed version—not just whether DSU appears in the inventory—to determine whether the installation falls below the threshold.

Dell’s download listing gives version 2.3.0.0 a release date of 28 July 2026. The advisory recommends upgrading at the earliest opportunity. Get the update from Dell’s DSU 2.3.0.0 driver details page.

Why CVE-2026-86360 matters

Dell describes CVE-2026-86360 as a path traversal vulnerability in DSU versions before 2.3.0.0. Dell says an unauthenticated attacker with remote access could potentially exploit it to access the filesystem and possibly execute arbitrary code with root privileges. Dell assigns the vulnerability a CVSS base score of 9.6 and classifies the advisory impact as critical; successful exploitation may lead to complete compromise of the vulnerable application and underlying operating system.

Other DSU vulnerabilities covered by the same update

DSA-2026-324 covers four additional vulnerabilities in DSU versions earlier than 2.3.0.0. Dell lists the same remediation—DSU 2.3.0.0 or later—for all five:
