Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

That can show whether your computer meets the publisher’s stated baseline, but it cannot guarantee a particular frame rate, graphics setting, or trouble-free launch—especially before an unreleased RPG has been tested on a range of systems.
1. Find the game’s current PC requirements
Start with the publisher’s official page or the store listing for the PC version. On Steam, open the game’s Store page and find System Requirements. Steam explains where to find the platform and hardware requirements on its Store page.

Record the minimum and recommended specifications, including the supported operating system and architecture, CPU, graphics card, RAM, storage, and any named graphics API or feature requirements. Requirements for an upcoming game can be added or revised, so check the listing again near release rather than relying on an old announcement or a third-party summary.
2. Identify your PC’s hardware
Use DxDiag on Windows
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type
dxdiagand press Enter. If prompted to check driver signatures, choose whether to proceed; the diagnostic can still display your system information. - On the System tab, note the Windows version, processor, and memory.
- Open the Display tab and note the graphics device and driver details. If the PC has more than one display or graphics tab, check each relevant one.
Steam’s driver guidance describes using DxDiag to view graphics-device and driver information. Rockstar Support also recommends DxDiag as a way to identify PC hardware when checking compatibility with a game (Rockstar’s instructions).

Check available storage in Windows File Explorer by opening This PC and looking at the drive where you intend to install the game. The game’s listed storage requirement is not the same as the amount of free space currently available.
3. Compare each requirement with the matching PC detail
Use the exact models and requirements shown on the current listing. A match in one category does not compensate for a shortfall in another.

- Operating system: Confirm that your Windows version is supported and check whether the game requires a 64-bit operating system.
- CPU: Compare the processor model, not just its clock speed or the fact that both processors have a similar number of cores.
- GPU: Compare the graphics-card model and any stated feature or API requirements. A PC may have both integrated and discrete graphics; identify which GPU the game is expected to use.
- RAM: Compare installed system memory with the listed amount.
- Storage: Confirm that the intended drive has enough free space for the stated requirement.
- API and features: Check any explicit graphics API, shader, or other hardware capability listed by the developer, as well as relevant driver requirements.
Do not use the DirectX version installed in Windows as a substitute for checking the GPU. Steam notes that having a current DirectX installation does not prove older graphics hardware supports the shader features a game requires (Steam’s DirectX and pixel shader guidance).
4. Read minimum and recommended requirements as different targets
Minimum requirements are a baseline, not a performance promise. Epic Games Support says a system that only meets minimum requirements probably will not run at the highest settings (Epic’s system-requirements guidance). Steam likewise cautions that meeting requirements alone does not establish high frame rates or strong performance (Steam’s performance guidance).

Recommended specifications are a more useful comparison if you want a higher visual-quality or performance target. But unless the developer states a specific target—such as settings, resolution, or frame rate—do not assume that “recommended” guarantees one.

If your PC is at or near the listed requirements, consider the result uncertain rather than a definite yes. Steam warns that systems near requirements may experience performance or launch problems (Steam’s guidance on systems near requirements).

Check the driver version and date shown in DxDiag, then consult the graphics-card maker’s current driver support if an update may be needed. After release, benchmarks for the same RPG on closely matching CPU and GPU hardware can help narrow the uncertainty. Treat them as evidence for that tested setup, not a guarantee for yours: settings, drivers, game patches, and the rest of the PC can change the result.

What the check can—and cannot—tell you
A careful comparison can tell you whether your PC appears to meet the game’s published operating-system and hardware requirements. It cannot prove in advance that the game will launch or perform well on your particular system. That distinction matters most for unreleased games, whose final requirements and real-world performance may not yet be established.
