1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFirst check which network the notice names. The Ethereum Foundation’s Glamsterdam notice concerns Sepolia, not Ethereum mainnet: its scheduled Sepolia activation was October 6, 2026 at 13:53:36 UTC, a date that has passed. The notice says Hoodi and mainnet dates are undecided. If you use Ethereum mainnet or hold ETH, that Sepolia announcement does not require action from you.
Check the network, then your role
An Ethereum upgrade notice applies to a particular network and software layer. A testnet activation does not mean mainnet has upgraded, and an end user’s next step differs from a node operator’s or developer’s.

- Identify the network. Check the wallet or dApp’s active network and compare it with the network named in the notice: for example, Ethereum mainnet, Sepolia, or Hoodi. For Glamsterdam, the cited Foundation notice schedules Sepolia only; Hoodi and mainnet dates are not set in that notice. See the Ethereum Foundation Glamsterdam Testnet Announcement.
- Identify what you operate. If you are an ordinary user, look for your wallet, dApp, or service provider’s status notice. If you run an Ethereum node, check client updates for the affected network. If you build a wallet or dApp, assess and test the software against the upgrade.
- Verify unusual instructions at their source. Use the Ethereum Foundation’s protocol announcement for network timing and the affected product’s own official release notes for wallet, dApp, or infrastructure compatibility. The Foundation’s 2022 Mainnet Merge announcement also advised users to verify extra instructions rather than assume they were legitimate.
What to do as a wallet or dApp user
For the Sepolia-only Glamsterdam notice, an Ethereum mainnet user does not need to update a wallet or install an upgrade-specific tool. The Foundation’s answer to whether a mainnet user or ETH holder must act is: “No. This announcement concerns Sepolia.” That answer applies to this announcement; it is not a promise about every future mainnet upgrade.
If you use a wallet or dApp on the affected network, check that product’s official notice for that network. The available official information does not establish a complete compatibility list for every consumer wallet, hosted RPC provider, or individual dApp, so do not infer support or a problem from the upgrade announcement alone.

A dApp can request a wallet to switch networks through wallet_switchEthereumChain, where supported. A successful switch confirms that the active chain changed; it does not test whether the wallet or dApp correctly handles the chain’s upgraded protocol rules. The method is specified in EIP-3326.
What node operators should check
Ethereum nodes use both an execution client and a consensus client. For the Sepolia Glamsterdam schedule, the Foundation says node operators should update both, using client releases whose notes explicitly confirm support for the activation. Check the announcement and the release notes for the specific clients and network you run; follow each client’s update instructions. The Ethereum node setup documentation explains the client layers and running a node.

The Foundation’s Glamsterdam guidance asks application developers to test on Sepolia and examine whether changes affect their software. Its announcement describes changes across execution and consensus, including enshrined proposer-builder separation (EIP-7732), block-level access lists (EIP-7928), and gas-accounting and state-growth adjustments. Focus testing on the assumptions your application actually makes:

- Gas accounting and estimation: Verify estimates, limits, and transaction handling against the upgraded network.
- Hardcoded gas ceilings: The Foundation’s earlier Platåberget testnet guidance warns that tools relying on a hard-capped maximum gas limit—including wallets and gas estimators—will break and need updating. This is a developer compatibility warning, not evidence that every user wallet is broken. See Announcing the Platåberget Testnet.
- Logs and opcodes: Check that indexers, contracts, and application logic continue to interpret relevant data and execution behavior correctly.
- Client interfaces: Verify integrations against the interfaces your software uses, including any client or infrastructure dependencies.
Use the relevant test network for testing, and consult the current Foundation notice for its schedule and the project’s own release information. The Glamsterdam announcement’s test guidance is aimed at developers; it does not tell ordinary users to install a special upgrade tool.

The Glamsterdam announcement reports a Sepolia activation schedule of October 6, 2026 at 13:53:36 UTC (epoch 353,024, slot 11,296,768). Because that time has passed, it describes a scheduled activation rather than a future deadline. The same notice does not give Hoodi or mainnet dates. Check the Foundation’s protocol announcement and the relevant provider’s release notes for later schedules or compatibility updates.
