To check whether a specific Ethereum Layer 2 still supports withdrawals, first identify the network, bridge, asset, and route. For a withdrawal already in progress, open the network’s official bridge history and look up the transaction hash from the L2 transaction. Then check whether the withdrawal has been initiated, proven on Ethereum, cleared any applicable challenge or delay period, and finalized on Ethereum. An L2 transaction marked successful does not by itself mean the funds have arrived on Ethereum.
“Supports withdrawals” can mean either that the network has a usable exit route or that your particular withdrawal is progressing. Check both: confirm the network’s current official withdrawal instructions, then verify your transaction’s stage.

Check the status of a specific L2 withdrawal
- Confirm what you are withdrawing. Identify the exact Layer 2 network, the bridge you used, the asset, and that the route is from the L2 to Ethereum. Different bridges or routes can have different status pages and steps.
- Find the initiating transaction hash. This is usually the transaction submitted on the L2 to start the withdrawal. Open the network’s official bridge transaction history or documented status tool and search for that hash. Arbitrum’s official FAQ recommends checking its bridge history to see a deposit or withdrawal’s status and when a withdrawal is ready to claim: Arbitrum FAQ. Use the equivalent official interface for other networks.
- Read the stage, not just the word “pending.” Check whether the withdrawal is waiting for an L2 initiation, an L1 proof, a challenge or execution delay, or an L1 finalization transaction. On the OP Stack, these are separate steps: after the challenge period, a relayer submits a finalizing transaction to the OptimismPortal contract. See the OP Stack withdrawal specification.
- Verify completion on Ethereum. If the bridge indicates that the withdrawal is ready to claim or finalize, check whether the required L1 transaction has been submitted and confirmed. A completed L2 initiation or proof is not the same as a finalized withdrawal on Ethereum.
Use the official chain explorer linked from the network’s documentation or bridge to inspect the relevant L2 and L1 transactions. Bridge labels and interfaces differ, so interpret them using that network’s current instructions rather than assuming that a status word means the same thing everywhere.

Optimistic rollups: challenge period and finalization
Optimistic-rollup withdrawals generally require a challenge period before they can be finalized on Ethereum. Ethereum.org describes this period as roughly seven days; that is a general explanation, not a guaranteed timeline for every L2 or withdrawal. Check the named network’s current documentation for its applicable wait and any additional steps. Once the period has passed, a separate finalization transaction may still be needed. ZK rollups: proof and network-specific delays
ZK-rollup withdrawal procedures depend on the protocol’s proof and settlement design. Ethereum.org describes validity proofs as part of how these systems establish settlement, but timing and any required user action are network-specific. ZKsync documentation, for example, has described a three-hour minimum execution delay for supported ZKsync chains, reduced from 21 hours. Treat that as a chain- and documentation-specific figure, not a general ZK-rollup guarantee, and check the current ZKsync instructions before relying on it. ZKsync documentation
Faster bridge routes are different services
Some liquidity providers offer a faster exit for a fee by supplying funds before the protocol’s standard withdrawal process finishes. That is a separate route from waiting for the standard bridge withdrawal to clear its protocol delay. Confirm which route you used and check its own status and terms; a faster interface does not change the underlying protocol’s standard withdrawal timeline.

Check whether the network still offers an exit route
A pending transaction alone does not show that a network has stopped supporting withdrawals. To assess network-wide availability, consult the named L2’s current official bridge, status page, and withdrawal documentation. Confirm that they describe a working L2-to-Ethereum route for the asset and bridge you intend to use, and compare their stated steps with the transaction record on the relevant chains.

- What transaction-history interface or status tool does the network recommend?
- Does withdrawal require a proof on Ethereum?
- Is there a challenge period or execution delay, and how long is it currently documented to be?
- Does the user need to submit a separate L1 claim or finalization transaction?
- Does the protocol document a forced-inclusion, censorship-resistance, or other escape route?
Procedures, labels, delays, and escape mechanisms vary and can change. A general description of rollups cannot establish the current availability of a particular network’s bridge.

Some rollup designs document ways to submit transactions directly to Ethereum or otherwise address censorship by a sequencer or operator. These mechanisms are protocol-specific; they are not a universal emergency withdrawal feature. Check the network’s official documentation for whether such a route exists, its prerequisites, and its exact procedure. Do not send funds to an address or contract based on instructions from an unofficial source.

Do not confuse L2 bridge withdrawals with staking withdrawals
An Ethereum validator withdrawal is a staking process, not an L2 bridge withdrawal. Validator withdrawal credentials control where staked ETH and rewards can be withdrawn: the 0x00 prefix does not include an execution-layer withdrawal address, while 0x01 and 0x02 do. Those credential types do not tell you whether an L2 bridge supports withdrawing tokens to Ethereum. See Ethereum.org: Staking withdrawals.
