For a controller advertised as the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition, compare its design with Nintendo’s official product image as a second clue. Neither check alone proves that a specific unit is genuine: Nintendo has identified counterfeit Switch Pro Controllers, and it does not publish a complete forensic authentication checklist.
Start with the model number on the back
- Turn the controller over and locate the Nintendo logo.
- Read the model number printed directly beneath the logo.
- Check that it says HAC-013.
Nintendo Support gives HAC-013 as the model number for official Switch Pro Controllers, regardless of color or special edition. A different model number does not match Nintendo’s stated identification for an official Pro Controller. A matching number is a useful check, but it is not conclusive proof that the individual controller is authentic.

Check whether the Zelda design matches an official edition
Nintendo released an official The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller on May 12, 2023. Nintendo’s product information and product image provide a reference for that specific design.

Treat resemblance as supporting evidence, not authentication: a counterfeit can imitate an official design, and the available official information does not give a detailed visual checklist for distinguishing every variation.

The existence of this one official Zelda-themed edition does not make every Zelda-decorated Pro Controller an official Nintendo product. Fan-made designs and other controllers with Zelda imagery may be described as “Zelda Pro Controllers” without being Nintendo editions.
Use the checks together, not as a guarantee

Nintendo has warned that counterfeit Switch Pro Controllers exist. That is why the model marking and design reference are best treated as clues rather than a certificate of authenticity. The sources do not establish a unit-level test that can conclusively authenticate every controller.

What to do if the marking or purchase raises concerns
- Keep the product listing, seller information, receipt, and return details in case you need to contact the seller or pursue a return.
- Do not rely on packaging or seller ratings as a definitive Nintendo authentication test; Nintendo’s published guidance does not set universal standards for either.
- If you have a specific unit in question, contact Nintendo Support and describe what you found. Its published support guidance explains the model-number check and points users toward repair when pairing remains unresolved.
Do not treat a pairing problem as proof of a counterfeit
A controller that will not pair or sync may have a device problem, but that symptom alone does not establish that it is counterfeit. Follow Nintendo’s support guidance for the pairing issue, and use the HAC-013 marking and the relevant product reference as separate identification clues.
Nintendo’s EU Declaration of Conformity also identifies HAC-013 as the model of the main part; the declaration’s revision date is May 8, 2025. That supports the model designation, but it is not a procedure for authenticating an individual controller.
