Start by identifying the tool’s exact model and battery platform. If it is marked 18V ONE+, RYOBI says current 18V ONE+ batteries are compatible with any RYOBI 18V ONE+ product. That is a platform-level statement, not proof that every Ryobi tool or battery system is interchangeable; check the model’s manual before fitting a battery.
Identify the tool before choosing a battery
Read the nameplate on the tool and record its complete model number and voltage or system marking. The words “Ryobi” or “18V” alone are not enough to establish a match. Look specifically for the 18V ONE+ designation.

Check the model’s manual and battery instructions
- Find the exact model. Use the full number on the tool’s nameplate, not a similar-looking model name.
- Open the model-specific documentation. Search RYOBI’s product manuals and support for that model. Read its battery and charger instructions, not just general product descriptions.
- Check the battery’s stated system. Compare the system named in the tool documentation with the system on the battery’s official product page. RYOBI states that an 18V ONE+ battery is compatible with any RYOBI 18V ONE+ product. RYOBI 18V ONE+ batteries
- Confirm the charger separately. Follow the tool and battery instructions for charging; a battery fit claim does not by itself verify that a particular charger is suitable.
If the tool is confirmed as 18V ONE+, the platform statement supports using a current RYOBI 18V ONE+ battery. The individual manual remains the right check for that tool’s instructions.

When not to assume a match
- The tool is marked with a different voltage or system.
- The nameplate is missing or unreadable, or you cannot find the exact model documentation.
- The tool manual and battery information appear to conflict.
- You are relying only on the connector’s appearance, battery capacity, brand name, or the fact that an old battery once fit.
In these cases, do not force a battery into the tool or infer compatibility from its age. Contact RYOBI support with the full tool model and battery model. RYOBI’s battery support information recommends having the battery, a compatible tool, and charger available when seeking help. Its support page also points customers to Home Depot for out-of-warranty 18V replacement batteries; that is a support route, not a guarantee of current stock or availability. RYOBI battery support
What the compatibility claim does—and does not—cover
RYOBI’s published compatibility wording applies to products on its 18V ONE+ platform. It does not establish that all Ryobi tools, all voltages, or every charger and battery combination are interchangeable. The model marking and its manual determine whether that platform claim applies to a particular vintage tool. The history dates and compatibility statement are RYOBI’s own claims, rather than the results of an independent compatibility study.
