That label indicates Linux availability, not a confirmed Linux ARM64 build. To judge whether a game will work, match its CPU architecture and compatibility route to your device, Linux distribution, Steam client, and graphics support.
Start with the Steam Store page
Open the game’s Store page and find System Requirements. Check which operating systems are listed and whether the requirements name a processor architecture or specific hardware. Steam Support recommends reviewing these requirements and notes that hardware matters when determining whether a game is available for your setup: Steam Support’s platform guidance.

A “SteamOS + Linux” listing is a useful first check, but it is not an ARM certification. Steam’s Linux game list concerns games available through the Steam for Linux client; it does not establish that a title has an ARM64 build. If the requirements only say Linux and do not identify the CPU architecture, treat ARM support as unconfirmed. See Steam Support’s guidance on games for Steam for Linux.

ARM devices commonly use ARM64, also called aarch64. A game built for Linux ARM64 is different from one built for Linux x86_64, also called AMD64. Valve’s published Steam for Linux README specifies a 64-bit x86_64/AMD64 Linux kernel for the general client. That requirement is a reason not to assume that installing the ordinary Linux Steam client on an ARM machine will work.

Look for an explicit ARM64 or aarch64 statement in the game’s requirements, developer documentation, or support information. If the Store page is vague, ask the developer whether the Linux build targets ARM64. A Linux label without an architecture does not answer that question.
Identify which compatibility route would be needed
“Runs on ARM” can mean several different things. Find out which route applies before installing; support for one route does not prove support for another.
Native Linux ARM64 build
The game itself includes a Linux build compiled for ARM64. This is the clearest evidence of native Linux ARM support. Confirm the architecture with the developer or the game’s technical documentation; the Linux Store category alone is insufficient.
Linux x86 game translated on ARM
An x86 or x86_64 Linux game may need a translation layer to run on an ARM processor, along with compatible graphics and runtime support. Valve describes this kind of route for Steam Frame, but its device-specific documentation is not a promise that the same setup works on any ARM Linux computer.

Windows x86 game through Proton and FEX
Proton provides a compatibility layer for running Windows games on Linux. In Valve’s Steam Frame example, FEX translates x86 game code to Arm64, while Proton handles the Windows-to-Linux compatibility layer. This is translated compatibility, not a native ARM game build, and it does not guarantee that a particular title will run. Valve explains the Steam Frame route in its Steamworks compatibility documentation and describes Proton in the Proton repository.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verify the exact device and game combination
Compatibility depends on more than the game’s operating-system listing. Compare the game’s build architecture with the processor, Linux distribution, Steam client, translation or compatibility layers, and graphics support on the device you intend to use. Then look for documentation or reports that cover that exact game and setup.
- Device-specific support: Valve documents Steam Frame as an Arm64 Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 device with a defined compatibility stack. Those details describe Steam Frame, not ARM Linux systems generally. Check Valve’s Steam Frame documentation only as evidence for that device’s route.
- Steam Deck labels: Deck compatibility information is for the Deck context. It does not establish ARM support for a different device.
- Steam Play: Steam says Steam Play may allow some Windows-only games to work on Linux. “May” is not a guarantee for a particular game or ARM device; check for evidence specific to your setup.
What to do if support is unclear
- On the game’s Steam Store page, read System Requirements and note the supported operating systems and hardware.
- Look for an explicit Linux ARM64 or aarch64 build. If none is documented, contact the developer rather than inferring ARM support from the Linux listing.
- Check whether your device has a Steam client and compatibility stack intended for its architecture. Do not assume the general Steam for Linux client supports ARM, given Valve’s published x86_64/AMD64 requirement.
- Search for evidence involving the same game, device, operating system, and compatibility route. A report for a different ARM device or for Steam Deck is not a direct confirmation.
- If you buy the game and it does not support your operating system, Steam Support says you may request a refund under its refund process. Review Steam’s platform guidance and the applicable refund terms.
Steam Support also says that deliberately purchasing games to run them with emulators or other utilities that simulate system requirements is outside Steam Support’s supported use. Do not treat unofficial emulation as Steam-certified compatibility.
