To check whether a Steam game works on Steam Deck, open its Steam Store page and look for the Deck compatibility rating and any accompanying notes. If you already own the game, find it in your Steam Deck Library; you can see its rating there and filter your Library by compatibility. Valve’s four labels distinguish games that work well out of the box, games that need adjustments, games that do not currently function, and games it has not reviewed.
Check a game’s Steam Deck compatibility
- Search Steam for the exact game. Use the Steam Store search and open the game’s Store page.
- Read the Deck compatibility badge and details. The rating and any notes on the title’s page provide Valve’s current assessment. Valve’s compatibility program explains what the categories mean.
- Filter games while browsing. Steam Store search includes a Deck Compatibility filter, with options such as Verified and Playable. Open Steam’s Store search to browse with compatibility filters.
- Check a game you own. Find it in your Steam Deck Library. Its compatibility rating appears there, and Library views can be filtered by rating.
If you are checking a particular title, use its current Store page or Library details rather than relying on an older rating or report. Valve reviews games on an ongoing basis, and ratings can change as games receive updates or Deck features change.

What the four Steam Deck compatibility labels mean
| Rating | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Verified | Works well on Steam Deck out of the box, according to Valve’s assessment. |
| Playable | Works, but may need a manual adjustment—for example, choosing a community controller configuration or using the touchscreen in a launcher. |
| Unsupported | Currently does not function on Steam Deck. |
| Unknown | Valve has not checked the game for compatibility. This label does not mean the game has failed the review or is known not to work. |
What Valve checks for a Verified rating
Valve assesses four areas: input, display, seamlessness, and system support. A Verified game should have full controller support and show the correct input icons; support Deck resolution with legible text and suitable defaults; avoid compatibility warnings and make any launcher navigable with a controller; and support Proton for the game and its middleware, including anti-cheat, where Proton is involved.

The rating reflects Valve’s compatibility criteria, not a promise that every individual player’s setup or experience will be identical.

Do ratings differ between Steam Deck LCD and OLED?
Valve says reviewed titles retain the same compatibility ratings on Steam Deck LCD and OLED. The rating therefore does not distinguish between those two models.
What to do when a game is marked Unknown
Unknown means Valve has not reviewed that game yet; it is not a verdict that the game is incompatible. If you need more certainty, look for recent, game-specific player reports, but treat them as reports rather than an official rating. For Valve’s assessment, check the Store page or Library again for the current status.

Why you should recheck a rating
Valve describes the compatibility review as ongoing: new games and updates appear every day, and Deck features can change. A rating or third-party report you saw earlier may no longer reflect the game’s current status. Check the title’s live Steam Store page or Library details when deciding whether to install or play it.
