Use the official USDA Income and Property Eligibility Site: choose the relevant Single Family Housing program, select Property Eligibility, and search the home’s complete street address. The map is a preliminary location check—not a loan approval or USDA’s final property determination.

Choose Property Eligibility. This is the tool for checking whether a property is in an eligible rural area.
-
Enter the complete street address in the map’s search box and submit it. If the address does not resolve, verify the spelling and details, then zoom to the property’s general area and inspect the map.
-
Read the displayed status as an initial indication. USDA handbook material describes three possible outcomes: eligible, ineligible, or unable to determine.
Use USDA’s map rather than a third-party eligibility map for the initial lookup. The program-specific option matters: make sure you selected the loan path you actually want to explore.

What each map result means
Eligible
The map indicates that the location is in an eligible area for the selected program. Continue with the borrower, property, and program reviews; this result is not approval.
Rank #3
Ineligible
The address is not shown as being in an eligible area on that program’s map. If the result seems inconsistent with the property’s precise location, recheck the address and map position. USDA Rural Development makes the final property determination after receiving a complete application.
Unable to determine
The tool has not resolved the address to a clear status. Confirm the address and selected program, then contact USDA Rural Development or, for a Guaranteed loan, a participating lender for guidance.

A location result does not establish that you qualify
Property eligibility and borrower eligibility are separate checks. A home may be in an eligible area while the household still needs to meet the applicable income and other program requirements. USDA’s site provides separate routes for property eligibility and applicant or household assessment.

What to do after checking the map
-
For a Guaranteed loan: USDA directs applicants to apply through an active, participating lender. Use USDA’s Guaranteed Loan Program information to continue.
-
For a Direct loan: The application route is through USDA Rural Development. See USDA’s Direct Home Loans information.
USDA’s property map disclaimer states that viewing its eligibility maps “does not constitute a final determination by Rural Development.” It also says the final determination of property eligibility must be made by Rural Development upon receipt of a complete application. Treat the map as a screening tool and confirm a property-specific question through the appropriate application route.
