Check two things separately: compare the appliance’s exact edition, branch, and build with Citrix’s current security bulletin, then compare its running configuration with the bulletin’s preconditions for each CVE. That establishes whether the appliance is affected; it does not establish whether an attacker exploited it. As of October 4, 2026, Citrix’s September 27 bulletin covers eight vulnerabilities and reports observed exploitation of two of them.
What does Citrix’s current bulletin say?
The September 27, 2026 Citrix bulletin rates the issue Critical and covers CVE-2026-88771 through CVE-2026-88778. The scores below are Citrix-published CVSS v4.0 base scores, not measures of how often attacks occur or how likely a particular appliance is to be attacked.

| CVE | CVSS v4.0 base score | Citrix-stated condition | Exploitation status in the bulletin |
|---|---|---|---|
| CVE-2026-88771 | 9.5 | Unauthenticated remote code execution; all NetScaler ADC and Gateway deployments meet the stated precondition, including default configurations. | Citrix says exploitation on unmitigated deployments has been observed. |
| CVE-2026-88772 | 9.5 | Memory overflow that can allow remote code execution or denial of service; DTLS must be configured. DTLS is enabled by default on VPN virtual servers unless explicitly disabled. | Citrix says exploitation on unmitigated deployments has been observed. |
| CVE-2026-88773 | 9.3 | HTTP request smuggling when HTTP configuration is enabled. Citrix identifies HTTP/SSL-type LB, CS, VPN, or Authentication virtual servers as a way to check the precondition. | The bulletin does not say exploitation has been observed. |
| CVE-2026-88774 | 7.0 | Policy bypass involving use of HTTP URL-based expressions; check the configuration criteria in the bulletin. | The bulletin does not say exploitation has been observed. |
| CVE-2026-88775 | 8.8 | Memory overflow or denial of service when configured as a Gateway or AAA virtual server. | The bulletin does not say exploitation has been observed. |
| CVE-2026-88776 | 8.8 | Memory overflow or denial of service when configured with an Oracle-type LB virtual server. | The bulletin does not say exploitation has been observed. |
| CVE-2026-88777 | 8.8 | Memory overflow or denial of service in LB/CS or CGNAT-LSN/NAT64 deployments when a non-HTTP Layer 7 protocol feature is enabled. | The bulletin does not say exploitation has been observed. |
| CVE-2026-88778 | 8.8 | TCP initial sequence number prediction when the stated TCP and Enhanced ISN configuration conditions are met. Citrix says remediation includes a TCP configuration change as well as fixed software. | The bulletin does not say exploitation has been observed. |
These conditions are not interchangeable. In particular, the first CVE applies even in the default configuration, while other checks depend on configured services or parameters. Do not infer that a feature is off because administrators do not intentionally use it; verify the appliance’s actual running configuration.

| Product line | Fixed build stated in the bulletin | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| ADC/Gateway 14.1 standard | 14.1-73.37 | Builds before 14.1-73.37 are affected; 14.1-73.37 or later is the listed fixed line. |
| ADC/Gateway 13.1 standard | 13.1-64.23 | Builds before 13.1-64.23 are affected; 13.1-64.23 or later is the listed fixed line. |
| 14.1 FIPS | 14.1-73.37 FIPS | Use the FIPS threshold, rather than applying the standard-edition number without checking the bulletin. |
| 13.1 FIPS/NDcPP | 13.1-37.279 | Use the FIPS/NDcPP threshold stated for that line. |
The bulletin concerns customer-managed appliances and also calls out Secure Private Access Hybrid NetScaler instances. Citrix says it updates Citrix-managed services. Confirm which management model applies to each instance instead of treating a customer-managed appliance threshold as a universal service instruction.
How should an administrator check an appliance?
- Inventory the instance. Record whether it is ADC or Gateway, its edition (including FIPS or NDcPP where applicable), branch and full build, and whether it is customer-managed. Include relevant Secure Private Access Hybrid NetScaler instances.
- Open Citrix’s latest security bulletin. Check the bulletin’s publication and update dates, affected and fixed builds, and the specific precondition for each CVE. A remembered build number or an older scan report can miss a later update.
- Compare the exact build with the correct line. A build earlier than the bulletin’s fixed build is affected by that bulletin. Record the applicable fixed update for the edition and branch; do not combine thresholds from different branches or advisories.
- Review configuration CVE by CVE. Citrix’s bulletin provides checks involving DTLS, HTTP/SSL virtual servers, Gateway and AAA roles, Oracle load balancing, non-HTTP Layer 7 functions such as FTP, RTSP, DNS64, and NAT64, and TCP settings with Enhanced ISN Generation disabled. Match the documented condition to the relevant CVE rather than treating a general configuration search as a complete vulnerability test.
- Use the appliance configuration as evidence. Citrix points administrators to review
ns.confor the output ofshow ns runningConfigfor documented feature patterns. For CVE-2026-88778, the bulletin identifies the relevant virtual-server type and this check:show ns tcpparam | grep "Enhanced ISN Generation". A result ofEnhanced ISN Generation: DISABLEDis the setting named in the bulletin’s condition. The bulletin cautions that some patterns are configuration-text searches, not NetScaler CLI commands; do not paste every listed pattern into the command line. - Track the result per instance and CVE. Record the edition/build, whether the build falls below the fixed threshold, which documented configuration conditions match, and what corrective action is planned. This makes a fleet review auditable without confusing build exposure with evidence of an intrusion.
Can NetScaler Console check a fleet?
For a supported estate, use Security Advisory’s CVE Detection view to identify impacted instances after a version scan. The documented path is Security Advisory → CVE Detection → Impacted Instances; search for the CVE there. Citrix says a scan may take a couple of hours, while Scan-Now may return results sooner. The workflow can also populate an upgrade workflow for affected instances.

Does an affected build or configuration mean the appliance was compromised?
No. Affected means the appliance meets a vendor-defined version or configuration condition for a vulnerability. It does not prove that an attacker reached or exploited it. Conversely, patching the appliance does not establish whether it was compromised before the update.

Citrix’s generic indicator-of-compromise (IoC) assessment is an initial aid, not a clean bill of health. Citrix warns that its IoC information does not encompass every attacker technique, may have limited forensic value, and may fail to identify a real compromise. Eligibility for the feature requires telemetry and a manual scan; customers without access to it can contact Citrix Support for applicable IoCs.
What should you do if compromise is suspected?
- Preserve relevant logs and forward them to an external logging or SIEM platform. Use file-integrity monitoring where available.
- Do not treat an IoC scan, a configuration check, or a successful software update as proof that no prior intrusion occurred.
- Involve experienced forensic investigators to assess evidence and determine the response.
- Citrix recommends deploying a new, updated NetScaler instance if compromise is suspected or confirmed. Follow current Citrix guidance for the affected deployment.
Why must you check the advisory that matches each CVE?
Citrix’s August 19, 2026 bulletin for CVE-2026-19489 and CVE-2026-19490 illustrates why the build and configuration checks both matter: one issue required SIP ALG in an LSN group, while the other involved Gateway/AAA and version-specific SAML conditions. That earlier bulletin listed different fixed builds—14.1-73.32, 13.1-63.21, 14.1-73.32 FIPS, and 13.1-37.277 FIPS/NDcPP. Those figures belong to that advisory; use the September bulletin’s later thresholds for the vulnerabilities it covers, and consult each applicable bulletin when checking multiple CVEs.
The September bulletin was published September 27, 2026; Citrix Community guidance was updated September 30, 2026. Treat the build numbers and exploitation status here as a point-in-time account, and verify the current Citrix bulletin and release guidance before acting.
