Start by checking the image or footage against Rockstar’s official GTA VI media pages. A direct match can confirm that the content appears in material Rockstar published; it cannot prove that a repost is unedited or that its caption is true. If you cannot trace an unofficial item to a reliable original source, describe it as unverified—not automatically real or AI-generated. Visual glitches and detector scores are clues, not verdicts.
Check Rockstar’s official media before judging a repost
Open Rockstar’s GTA VI media pages directly rather than relying on a repost’s caption, watermark, or link. The official video listing includes Trailer 1, Trailer 2, the Extended Look, and character clips. Rockstar’s GTA VI media area also provides screenshots. These are the best starting points for checking material Rockstar has released publicly, but they are not a complete record of every private file or purported leak.

- Find the official GTA VI media pages and look for the claimed trailer, clip, character footage, or screenshot.
- Open the official item itself. Do not treat a search-result thumbnail or a social post repeating its title as confirmation.
- Compare the content, not just the post’s caption. For a screenshot, check whether the scene and visible details correspond to an official image. For a video, compare several frames and the sequence with the official video.
- Record what the match establishes: that the image or footage corresponds to published Rockstar material. Do not infer from a match that the repost is unedited or that any extra claims attached to it are accurate.
A crop, thumbnail, or isolated frame may make a comparison difficult. If the relevant details are missing, the result is inconclusive; it is not proof that the image is fake. For video, a single matching frame does not establish that the rest of the clip comes from the same source.
Keep the check focused on the specific claim. Someone might say a still is an official screenshot, that a video is an unreleased build, or that a clip was captured on a particular platform. Those are separate claims and may need different evidence. Finding a similar official scene can support a match to published material; it does not prove the platform, date, capture method, or editing history of a separate repost.

Keep official footage, purported leaks, and unknown-origin posts separate
“Official,” “leaked,” and “AI-generated” describe different things. Official means Rockstar published the item. A leak claim is a claim about how material was obtained or surfaced; it does not by itself establish that the file is genuine. AI-generated describes how content was made, and should be used only when reliable evidence supports that conclusion.
| What you can establish | Careful wording | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| The item appears in Rockstar’s official media | “Published by Rockstar” or “matches an official Rockstar video/image” | That a repost is complete, unedited, or accurately captioned |
| A post calls the item a leak, but its source or chain of custody is unclear | “Reported as a leak, but not independently verified” | That the file is genuine, or that it is AI-generated |
| You cannot trace the item to Rockstar or a corroborated original source | “Unverified” or “source unknown” | That it is necessarily fake, real, or AI-generated |
| Reliable evidence supports a synthetic origin | “AI-generated,” with the supporting evidence identified | That every other unofficial GTA VI post has the same origin |
GamesRadar reported on August 21, 2026, that AI-generated fake GTA VI clips were circulating amid purported leaks, while also describing uncertainty about the origin and legitimacy of leaked footage. That context is a reason to check individual items carefully, not a basis for labeling every circulating clip fake. A viral repost count, confident account name, or watermark is not independent confirmation.
In practice, a claim can sit between “confirmed” and “false.” A clip may be presented as a leak without a traceable original poster; a screenshot may resemble official art but not match an item in Rockstar’s public archive; a repost may combine an official frame with added material. Be precise about which part you checked. “This frame matches the Extended Look” is narrower—and more defensible—than “the entire leak is real.”

Compare a screenshot carefully
For a still image, compare the candidate with the closest official Rockstar screenshot you can find. Look for the same scene and framing, then compare visible details within the image. A resemblance to the game’s general style is weaker evidence than a correspondence to a specific published image.
- Check the full composition. Compare the placement of people, objects, buildings, and other visible details, not only the subject of the image.
- Account for cropping. A repost may be cropped or resized. If the crop removes the details needed to compare it, you may not be able to confirm a match.
- Distinguish a match from a provenance claim. An image may reproduce or edit official material. Matching some details does not show who made the repost or whether it has been altered.
- Do not use polish as a test. A convincing image is not authenticated just because it looks finished; an unusual detail does not by itself prove AI generation.
If you find no matching screenshot, report that it is not confirmed by the official image you checked. Rockstar’s public media pages are a reference for published material, not proof that every unlisted image has one particular origin.
A useful comparison is specific rather than impressionistic. Ask whether the candidate shows the same arrangement and framing as an official image, then look for several visible details that correspond. “It has the same lighting and looks like Vice City” is a style judgment, not a match. Conversely, differences in crop or size can make two versions appear unlike each other without establishing a different source. If you cannot make a reliable side-by-side comparison, say that the image remains unconfirmed.
Also distinguish a screenshot from a frame taken out of a video. A frame may correspond to an official sequence even if the separate image has been cropped, sharpened, captioned, or otherwise changed. The correspondence can help identify the source material, but it does not settle whether the image circulating online is an untouched Rockstar file.

Compare a video across multiple frames
Short excerpts and thumbnails can hide context. Compare several points in the candidate video with the official listing, and consider the sequence rather than deciding from one striking frame. Check whether the visible scene and details remain consistent across the clip. If only a fragment matches, describe that limited correspondence instead of treating it as authentication of the whole video.
- Find the claimed official source. Search Rockstar’s video listing for the same scene or sequence.
- Check more than one moment. Compare frames at different points, including transitions or changes in camera view when available.
- Separate the footage from its packaging. A thumbnail, title card, watermark, or social caption may have been added by the account sharing the clip; it is not proof of who produced the underlying footage.
- Note any mismatch without overclaiming. A mismatch means the item does not match the official footage you compared it with. It does not by itself show whether the cause is an edit, fan-made material, another source, or AI generation.
Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 announcement said its Extended Look was available on YouTube and the official GTA VI site and described that release as “Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.” That is Rockstar’s statement about the named Extended Look, not a certification of unrelated clips or screenshots.
When checking a short excerpt, make sure you are comparing the actual moving content rather than a title card or a familiar-looking thumbnail. A matching frame establishes only that a frame corresponds to published footage. A stronger comparison looks at several points in order and asks whether the sequence follows the same scene and camera changes as the official video. If one section matches but another does not, describe the sections separately instead of giving the entire upload one label.
This distinction matters when a post adds a new opening, an altered caption, or a longer segment around a familiar clip. The presence of authentic material in one portion does not authenticate all the surrounding footage. Nor does an isolated mismatch prove synthetic generation: the difference could have another explanation, including editing or a source not represented in Rockstar’s public pages.
Use visual warning signs as prompts to investigate
GamesRadar’s August 21, 2026 report mentioned odd camera movements, spelling errors, and inconsistent HUD details among warning signs seen in purported fake clips. Those observations can justify closer checking, but they are not a validated checklist and cannot prove that a particular GTA VI video is AI-generated.
- Odd camera movement: treat it as a reason to look for the original sequence and compare multiple frames, not as a stand-alone verdict.
- Misspellings: inspect the exact frame and context. An apparent spelling error can be a clue, but it does not establish the content’s origin on its own.
- Inconsistent HUD details: check whether the detail changes across the sequence and whether the clip matches any official source. An inconsistency raises a question; it does not answer it.
- No obvious visual errors: do not treat a clean, realistic-looking image as proof of authenticity.
Visual inspection is most useful for deciding what to verify next. It is weakest when asked to settle provenance by itself.
Try to turn each visual concern into a checkable question. If the camera seems unusual, can you find the same movement in an official sequence? If a word appears misspelled, is it actually legible in the original-resolution frame, or might the crop or display make it hard to read? If a HUD element seems inconsistent, does it change from frame to frame, or is the clip too short to tell? The point is not to excuse every oddity; it is to avoid treating a visual impression as proof of how the footage was made.

The reverse applies too. Lack of visible glitches does not demonstrate that content is genuine. High visual fidelity, a convincing game style, or a plausible setting is not a substitute for a source that can be checked. Realism is not one of the strongest comparison criteria; a direct match to official media and corroborated provenance matter more.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Treat AI-detector results as supporting evidence, not a verdict
A detector score cannot settle whether an individual GTA VI post is authentic unless the tool’s capability and tested scope are relevant to that particular content and manipulation. A system designed to examine one kind of synthetic video may not answer questions about a different kind of edit, a screenshot, or a specific clip’s source history. Do not turn a score into “definitely AI” or “definitely real” without evidence that supports that interpretation.
The CVPR 2025 paper “Towards a Universal Synthetic Video Detector: From Face or Background Manipulations to Fully AI-Generated Content” addresses detection across different kinds of synthetic and manipulated video. It illustrates the range of the technical problem; it does not validate a consumer detector for a particular GTA VI clip or provide a verdict on its provenance. The available evidence does not establish a detector accuracy figure that can responsibly be applied to these posts.
If you choose to mention a detector result, name the tool and explain what its documented scope covers. Present its output as one clue alongside source tracing and comparison with official media—not as proof.
Before relying on a score, ask what the tool says it evaluates and whether that scope matches the item in front of you. A video detector may not answer whether a still image is an altered frame from a genuine video; a system that looks for manipulated faces or backgrounds is not automatically suited to every kind of fully generated footage. Even a relevant output does not establish who posted a file or whether a repost has been edited. Without a clear, relevant scope, the score adds little to the provenance check.
There is no responsible shortcut from a numerical score to a universal real-or-AI label here. The CVPR 2025 paper covers a technically broad detection problem, not the accuracy of a named consumer tool on GTA VI posts. Avoid borrowing a generic accuracy number or presenting the detector’s confidence as if it were a verified probability that this particular clip is synthetic.
Compare candidate posts on evidence, not realism
If you are choosing between two explanations or posts, use the same questions for each. First, does the content directly match something Rockstar published? Second, can you trace the original publisher and the repost history? Third, do multiple frames or the full sequence remain consistent with the claimed source? Fourth, is there independent corroboration for the source claim? Finally, if a detector is being cited, does its documented scope cover the suspected manipulation?

These checks are not interchangeable. A polished clip may have weak provenance; a rough-looking clip may still be an edited or compressed copy of official footage. A detector result cannot replace a missing original source, and an official archive match cannot authenticate added scenes. Give the greatest weight to what can be directly compared or independently corroborated, and state any unresolved gaps.
For example, if one post links to an official Rockstar video and its frames match several moments in that video, while another offers only a confident leak caption and a watermark, the first has stronger evidence for correspondence to released material. That still does not prove the first repost is untouched. The second remains unverified unless its origin can be corroborated; its lack of a match is not proof that it was made with AI.

Corroborate the source and choose a precise label
When an item is not in Rockstar’s public archive, look for a traceable original source and independent corroboration before repeating a claim about it. Ask who first posted the material, whether that origin can be checked, and whether reliable reporting establishes where the file came from. If the source or chain of custody remains unclear, say so plainly.
A useful evidence note can be brief: name the official page or video you checked, say whether the item matched, and identify what remains unknown. For instance, “This frame matches an image in Rockstar’s public gallery; the separate repost’s editing history is unknown” communicates more than a broad claim that a post is “real.” If no match appears, distinguish “not found in the official material I checked” from “fake.” The former reports the result of a bounded check; the latter asserts an origin you may not have established.
Use the strongest description the evidence actually supports:
- “Published by Rockstar” when you have found the item on Rockstar’s official media pages.
- “Matches an official Rockstar image/video” when you have compared the content with a published item but are describing a separate repost.
- “Reported as a leak, but not independently verified” when a leak claim exists but the origin has not been established.
- “Unverified” when you cannot corroborate the source or determine the item’s provenance.
- “AI-generated” only when reliable evidence supports that specific conclusion.
This distinction is useful even when you cannot reach a final answer. It tells other readers what was checked and avoids turning an unsupported authenticity claim—or an unsupported AI accusation—into fact. Rockstar’s public pages are the best starting references for released material, but they cannot prove the origin of every private or leaked file. A careful “unverified” is a meaningful conclusion when the evidence stops there.

Is this GTA 6 screenshot real?
First compare it with Rockstar’s official GTA VI screenshot collection. A direct match supports saying it matches published Rockstar material, but it does not prove that a separate repost is unedited or accurately captioned. If you cannot find a match or trace a reliable source, call it unverified rather than automatically fake or AI-generated.
Best Value
How can I tell if a GTA 6 video is AI-generated?
Check Rockstar’s official video listing, compare several frames and the sequence, and look for a traceable original source and independent corroboration. Odd camera movement, spelling errors, or inconsistent HUD details can prompt closer checking, but none proves AI generation on its own. Detector scores are supporting clues, not verdicts.
Does a GTA 6 leak claim mean the footage is genuine?
No. “Leak” describes a claim about how material surfaced; it does not establish that the file is authentic. If its origin or chain of custody has not been established, describe it as reported as a leak but not independently verified.
Does Rockstar’s Extended Look prove other GTA 6 clips are real?
No. Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 announcement described that specific Extended Look as captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5 and said it was available on YouTube and the official GTA VI site. That statement applies to the named release, not unrelated clips or screenshots.
Can an AI detector prove that a GTA 6 clip is fake?
Not by itself. A detector’s scope may not match the clip or suspected manipulation, and a score does not establish a post’s provenance. Name the tool and its tested scope if you cite a result, and weigh it alongside direct comparison and source corroboration.
Where should I look for official GTA 6 screenshots and trailers?
Go directly to Rockstar’s official GTA VI media pages. The video listing includes Trailer 1, Trailer 2, the Extended Look, and character clips, while the media area also provides screenshots. Use those pages as a starting point for released material, not as proof about every unlisted file.
The Bottom Line
Check Rockstar’s official GTA VI media first, then compare the actual image or several moments of video and look for a corroborated original source. A match establishes correspondence to published material, not the editing history of a repost. Visual warning signs and detector scores can guide further checking, but if provenance remains unclear, the accurate label is unverified.
