A studio being bought does not, by itself, mean its games will stop receiving support. To find out what is changing for a specific game, check its latest official announcement, FAQ and support pages, then verify updates, online services, player support, saves and platform access separately. Treat any detail the publisher has not confirmed as unknown—not as proof that support will continue or end.
What does “supported” mean for a game?
Support is not a single yes-or-no status. A game may keep receiving bug fixes while its customer-support provider changes, or remain playable after a connected feature is removed. Check each part that matters to you:

- Content and maintenance: Are new content updates, bug fixes or routine maintenance still planned?
- Player support: Who handles account, purchase and technical problems, and where should players contact them?
- Online services: Are servers, multiplayer, leaderboards or other connected features staying online?
- Accounts and data: Will accounts, saves, achievements, purchases or entitlements transfer? Must players take action?
- Access and platforms: Can owners still launch the game on each platform? Does it have offline play if online services end?
A statement about one of these areas does not establish the status of the others.

First, establish what actually changed
Separate the studio’s ownership from the companies responsible for developing, publishing, operating and supporting the game. An acquisition can leave a studio operating independently; a publisher or live-operations provider can change without the studio being sold. Identify the parties named in the game’s current official notice rather than assuming the new owner handles every function.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s January 31, 2022 announcement of its Bungie acquisition said Bungie would “continue to operate independently, maintaining the ability to self-publish and reach players wherever they choose to play.” That was Sony’s stated plan at the time, not a guarantee about the current status of every Bungie game. How to check a specific game
- Open the game’s official news and support channels. Look for a transition announcement, FAQ, support page and dated patch notes. Start with the game or publisher’s official website, then follow links to any newly named developer, operator or support provider.
- Check platform-holder notices too. PlayStation or another platform may confirm store availability or a service shutdown, but that notice may not explain a new owner’s content plans. Read it alongside the game’s own statements.
- Match each claim to a support category. Find explicit information about updates, bug fixes, support contacts, online features, accounts, saves and platform access. Do not treat “the game will continue” as confirmation that every feature will remain.
- Look for dates and required actions. Check for transfer windows, account activation, revised terms, maintenance downtime, expiring currency or entitlements, and reinstall requirements. Note the deadline and who must act.
- Record what is confirmed and what is pending. A dated FAQ or roadmap reports what its publisher said at that point; plans may change. If an answer is marked “to be confirmed,” or there is no current official statement, describe it as unconfirmed.
What real transitions show
Planned handoffs can include continuing updates—and unresolved details
Amazon Game Studios’ August 12, 2026 FAQ for the western service of Throne and Liberty says publishing responsibility is planned to transition to developer NC, operating through FirstSpark Games, in Q4 2026. It says regular content updates and bug fixes will continue through the handoff, although a major update may be held until afterward. The FAQ also describes changes to the publisher, customer-support provider and channels, live-operations team, and terms, along with player-data transfer and account activation. It leaves some details, including possible downtime, unconfirmed. This is a planned transition, not evidence that it has already happened. Read the official FAQ.

Amazon Game Studios’ announcement for the western service of Lost Ark says a transition to Smilegate is planned for early 2027. It says updates and operations will continue until then, Smilegate will manage future content, and the support provider and community channels will change. Because this is a future plan, check the notice for schedule changes before describing the handoff as complete. Read the official announcement.
Access can continue while a connected feature ends
Bethesda Support’s Hi-Fi RUSH FAQ says publishing has transitioned to KRAFTON and directs players to KRAFTON support. It says players retain access on their owned platform and that saves and achievements are unaffected, while Bethesda.net connectivity in the game has been deactivated. An online shutdown can affect playability differently by game
PlayStation’s online-service notice distinguishes games that lose online features but retain offline play from GUNS UP!, which the notice says will become unplayable because it requires an online connection. Check the notice for the relevant platform and region; the status of online play does not, on its own, establish whether a game can still be played offline. Read PlayStation’s service notice.
Data-transfer procedures and currency deadlines deserve separate checks
Bandai Namco’s September 28, 2026 FAQ for SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada describes a move to an offline-exclusive version. It says players must complete specified procedures during the transfer period to retain online save data in the offline version, and gives a 150-day period to use paid SYN COINS after initial activation. This is not an ownership-change example, but it illustrates why a service transition notice should be checked for both data-transfer steps and time-limited entitlements. Read the FAQ.

How to report the status accurately
Summarize a game’s status by category and attach dates to plans that have not taken effect. For example: “The publisher’s August 12, 2026 FAQ says the western service is planned to transition in Q4 2026; regular updates and bug fixes are expected through the handoff, while possible downtime is not yet confirmed.” That is more precise than calling the game simply “supported” or “shut down.”
