The practical test is to start at 100%, use the foldable as you normally would from morning to evening, and note what charge remains. Record screen-on time and what you did, then repeat on several ordinary days. That gives you a better answer than battery capacity alone: a mAh figure describes capacity, not how long your particular mix of screens, apps, signal conditions, and settings will run.
Run a test that reflects your actual day
- Start fully charged. Unplug at 100% and use the phone through the time window that matters to you, such as your usual morning-to-bedtime day. Do not switch on unusual battery-saving settings just to improve the result.
- Record the outcome. At the end, write down the remaining percentage, screen-on time if available, and the battery-usage breakdown. Note whether you spent most of the day on the cover display or unfolded phone.
- Log the conditions. Include approximate brightness, Wi-Fi or cellular use, travel through weak-signal areas, video, games, navigation, camera use, hotspot use, and long calls. Those activities and conditions can change drain substantially.
- Repeat on representative days. Test several ordinary days rather than treating a heavy navigation-and-camera day and a light Wi-Fi day as equivalent. A single day is a snapshot, not a dependable pattern.
Google’s Android guidance puts it plainly: “Your device’s battery life depends on the type of device you have.” Its Pixel foldable testing also uses a mixed-use profile, not a universal day-long promise. If you have just set up or factory-reset a Pixel, Google says optimization can take a few weeks; extra drain shortly after a software update may also occur while the phone downloads and optimizes.

Understand what changes a foldable’s result
Cover display versus inner display
Record which screen you use and for how long. The larger inner display may change your habits—for example, you may watch more video or keep apps open longer—but the official guidance cited here does not establish a universal battery penalty for using it. Do not apply a fixed percentage adjustment without evidence for your exact model and use.
Power-hungry activities and conditions
Google identifies prolonged navigation, video, graphics-heavy games, camera use, hotspot or tethering, GPS, and calls while moving among activities that can use more power. Brightness, background apps, and connectivity are additional variables. Weak cellular signal during travel can make your day different from one spent on stable Wi-Fi, so note the context instead of attributing every change to the battery itself.

Capacity is not runtime
Battery capacity in mAh is one specification, not a personal endurance rating. Google describes Pixel foldable estimates using a profile that mixes talk, data, standby, Chrome browsing, audio playback, and YouTube streaming. Motorola’s UK Razr Fold page lists a 6,000 mAh battery and describes its battery-life estimate as approximate mixed use by a median user under optimal network conditions. That is Motorola’s stated claim for that market and model—not an independent test or a guarantee that every owner will get a full day.
Check the phone’s battery history if the result is poor
Before concluding that the battery is faulty, look for an app or temporary software activity that explains the drain. On supported Pixel phones, Battery usage can show app-level consumption; Pixel 6 and later also have battery diagnostics. Google’s exact instructions are available in its Pixel battery usage and diagnostics guidance. Menus and diagnostic features differ by brand and model.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 manual documents viewing remaining battery power or time-to-use and limiting background usage. Treat this as a model-specific example rather than assuming identical menus across Samsung foldables or other brands. Check the manual or support page for your exact phone, then review recent app installs and available software updates if the drain began recently.

When comparing two foldables, compare like with like. A continuous web-browsing test at fixed brightness, a video loop, a manufacturer mixed-use estimate, and a reader’s real day answer different questions. A result is useful only alongside its protocol and conditions.

- Test method: identify whether the result is continuous browsing, video playback, mixed use, or an independent real-world review; check brightness, connectivity, starting charge, and stopping condition.
- Match to your habits: consider cover-versus-inner-screen use, screen-on time, video or gaming, navigation, camera use, cellular signal, and hotspot use.
- Account for software and battery condition: note whether the phone is newly set up or recently updated, and check diagnostics or background-app use where available.
- Keep capacity and charging separate: mAh does not establish endurance, while charging speed and access to a charger are separate conveniences.
There is no universal all-day threshold established by these sources, and the manufacturer figures are not directly comparable with every independent test. Use protocol details and a multi-day sample that resembles your own routine to judge whether a particular foldable fits your day.
