To check a drone for ERA-GLONASS compatibility, verify more than its GPS or GLONASS navigation receiver: confirm that its remote-identification device can send data into ERA-GLONASS, that the owner has an active account, and that the drone’s record appears correctly in the system. Russia’s Ministry of Transport says an active owner-account confirmation is required when submitting flight plans from October 1, 2026. The Ministry has not published a complete model-by-model approved-device list, so a tracker’s category or retailer claim alone does not prove compatibility.
What ERA-GLONASS compatibility means
A drone can use GPS or GLONASS to determine its position without having the remote-identification equipment and system connection needed for ERA-GLONASS. A generic consumer tracker or a manufacturer’s claim that a product supports “tracking” is not, by itself, proof that the drone is connected to the Russian system.

Mintrans describes four device categories the system can receive data from: cellular, satellite, hybrid, and broadcast-type identification devices. That is a category-level description, not certification of every device in those categories. Compatibility depends on the particular device, its data path into ERA-GLONASS, the owner’s account, and the aircraft information recorded in the system.
Which Russian requirements and dates apply
For Russian civil unmanned aircraft, Mintrans says remote-identification equipment has been required since March 1, 2026, for aircraft weighing more than 250 grams. The government-approved connection process also began on that date. The Ministry describes ERA-GLONASS as supporting monitoring of aircraft tracks and information about operators and owners, as well as time and speed data. See the Mintrans notice dated February 10, 2026.

From October 1, 2026, Mintrans says confirmation of an ERA-GLONASS connection is a condition for submitting flight plans to the State Air Traffic Management Corporation. The check is confirmation that the owner has an active personal account; the Ministry says plans are rejected if the state information system does not provide that confirmation. These dates and conditions concern Russian civil drone operations as stated in the Ministry’s September 24, 2026 notice. Check for later amendments and operational instructions before relying on them for a particular flight.
How to check a drone step by step
- Confirm the aircraft and operation. Establish that the operation is in Russia and concerns a civil unmanned aircraft. Check the aircraft’s mass: the stated remote-identification requirement applies to aircraft over 250 grams.
- Identify the remote-identification device. Get the device manufacturer, exact model, device category, and technical documentation. Ask the supplier or integrator to identify the precise ERA-GLONASS connection—not just the positioning signals or tracking features the device supports.
- Verify the data path for that model. Ask how the specific device sends the required identification data into ERA-GLONASS, and what service, agreement, installation, or owner steps are needed. The government document on information exchange describes exchanges involving the system operator and relevant authorities under agreements and cites equipment requirements in Government Resolution No. 1701 of November 30, 2024. It does not provide a consumer-facing list of compatible tracker models.
- Register the owner and check account status. Confirm that the owner has an active personal account in ERA-GLONASS. A tracker being installed or powered on does not establish that the account is active.
- Check the aircraft record and data. Ask how to confirm that the aircraft is correctly recorded and its data are visible and current in the system. Mintrans specifically advises owners to ensure that aircraft information is correctly reflected there.
- Confirm the flight-plan workflow. Check that the flight-plan platform you use is connected to the relevant ERA-GLONASS workflow. Mintrans reports integration with the State Air Traffic Management Corporation’s flight-plan submission system and commercial platforms; integration in general does not establish that every service or account setup works for your aircraft.
- Keep evidence of the setup. Retain the device documentation, owner-account confirmation, aircraft record, and any service or integration confirmation. The cited notices do not establish a single universal consumer certificate or compatibility label.
What to ask before buying or connecting a tracker
Ask the device supplier or an experienced integrator for specific, verifiable answers rather than relying on a broad “compatible” claim:

In its September 24, 2026 notice, Mintrans reported 1,205 unmanned aircraft in the system carrying out flights in Russian regions. It also reported 1,027 connected users, while listing 752 legal entities and 278 individuals—a breakdown that totals 1,030, not 1,027. The figures show reported system use, not approval of a specific device or proof of coverage for a particular flight. The same notice’s figure of testing in 40 regions is a historical implementation count, not a current compatibility or coverage guarantee.

Names in the ERA-GLONASS ecosystem are not model approvals
Mintrans has named Nebosvod, Yupiter, and FlyDrone among platforms integrated with the system. Its notices also name domestic UAS participants including Transport of the Future, Geoscan, BAS, Aurora-BAS, and Aeromax in connection with Russian trackers. Rosaviatsiya has also published a notice about ERA-GLONASS and unmanned aircraft. These references indicate an ecosystem of services and participants, but do not compare platforms or certify every product from a named organization as compatible.
