To see what Google AI Mode shows about your brand, run a consistent set of real customer questions in AI Mode and record the complete visible answers, date, market or language, and source links. Use Search Console’s Search generative AI performance report separately to monitor site-level impressions and available page and country dimensions. The report does not provide a complete ledger of brand mentions or answer text.
What to check in Google AI Mode
Search Console metrics cannot tell you exactly how a sampled answer describes your brand. For that, inspect the live AI Mode response and its visible links. Treat each check as a dated observation, not a permanent ranking or guarantee: Google says AI Mode may use “query fan-out”—multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources—and it continues to test and adjust how links appear in AI answers.

Build a small, useful prompt set
- Brand questions: Ask what your company offers, who it serves, or what its products do.
- Category questions: Ask questions a prospective customer might ask when comparing options, without naming your brand.
- Product or service questions: Ask about specific offerings and use cases.
- Source questions: Ask questions for which your website would be a plausible source.
Keep branded and non-branded questions in separate groups. Preserve each prompt exactly so later checks can be compared fairly.

Run and document each check
- Open Google AI Mode and submit one of your saved prompts.
- Record the date, prompt, market or language, and device conditions. Keep those conditions consistent across repeated checks where possible.
- Save the complete visible response and the visible source links. A screenshot can preserve the appearance of the result; also keep the prompt and notes in a separate log so the observation is searchable.
- Record these observations separately: whether the brand is named; whether the brand’s own site is linked; whether another site describes the brand; whether the claims are accurate; and which other sources or competitors appear.
A brand mention and a link to its website are different findings. Likewise, a visible source link is not by itself proof that every statement in the answer came from that source.

Repeat checks without changing the comparison
Repeat the same prompts on a schedule and compare like with like: same wording, market, language, and device conditions when possible. Keep the date attached to every result. Google’s documentation describes query fan-out and ongoing changes to source-link presentation, so one answer should not be treated as a stable or exhaustive view.
Use Search Console to track site exposure
Search Console’s Search generative AI performance report covers Search generative AI features, including AI Mode. It reports impressions and offers page and country dimensions, which can help you follow site-level exposure over time.

Read the report as a trend signal
- Choose a date range and note it alongside your observations.
- Review the available page and country dimensions to understand where reported impressions are associated with your site.
- Remember that standard Search performance-report limitations apply and the newest data may be marked preliminary.
- Keep report figures separate from your manual prompt log. Impressions are not a transcript, complete count of brand mentions, sentiment report, or proof that a particular prompt caused an appearance.
Google reported the Search generative AI performance report as rolled out worldwide by August 31, 2026. Availability and report data can change; use the report currently shown in your property.

In Search Console, open Settings > Search generative AI to view or manage the property’s inclusion choice. Google says this control covers AI Mode, AI Overviews, and generative AI features in Discover. If the property inherits a setting from a parent, check that inheritance when interpreting the choice. A change generally takes a few days to apply.
This is an eligibility control for whether a site’s links and content can appear in or help ground Search generative AI features. It is not a way to require Google to mention your brand or edit an answer.
Keep the evidence types distinct

For two brands or repeated checks, compare the same dimensions: mention versus own-site link, factual accuracy and framing, visible pages and outside sources, prompt and market, and changes across dates. Compare Search Console impressions separately from manual answer observations.

What to do with what you find
- If the answer names the brand but links elsewhere, note both facts rather than treating the mention as a site visit or citation.
- If a claim is inaccurate, save the exact wording and visible sources so you can identify what needs correction on your own site or in other material you control.
- If the answer omits the brand, record the prompt and conditions and check again later before treating the omission as a pattern.
- For content improvements, follow Google’s Search fundamentals and guidance on helpful, reliable content. No tactic in the reviewed official guidance guarantees a brand mention or link.
