When Aider reports “No Endpoints Found,” verify the exact OpenRouter model ID and whether OpenRouter currently has endpoints for it. A model may have been renamed or retired, but the error alone does not prove that; privacy and provider-routing settings can also prevent a listed model from serving your request.
What the error means—and what it does not
Aider sends requests to a model through a provider such as OpenRouter. The configured model name and the provider’s available serving endpoints are related but separate checks: a model can appear in a catalog without having an endpoint available to your account or routing configuration.

A historical Aider issue illustrates one possible cause. Opened November 24, 2024, it concerned openrouter/deepseek/deepseek-coder and a closely related “No endpoints found for this model” response. Discussion later named openrouter/deepseek/deepseek-chat as a replacement at that time. That example does not establish that either model is available now; check OpenRouter’s live catalog and endpoint data before choosing a replacement. Aider issue #2444.
How to diagnose and fix it

Check the model Aider is actually using
Record the complete model string and where it is set. Check the
--modelcommand-line option, theAIDER_MODELenvironment variable, and any model selected in the active Aider chat. Aider documents the option and environment variable in its options reference.#1 Best Overall

Compare it with Aider’s OpenRouter model names
Run
aider --list-models openrouter/. Aider’s OpenRouter guide documents this command for listing the model names it knows for that provider. OpenRouter model names follow the formopenrouter/<provider>/<model>; use the exact identifier rather than an approximate name copied from an old guide. Aider’s OpenRouter guide. -
Check OpenRouter’s current catalog and endpoint record
Search OpenRouter’s model catalog or use its
GET /api/v1/modelscatalog API to check the current model slug. Then check the specific model’s endpoint data: OpenRouter documentsGET https://openrouter.ai/api/v1/models/:author/:slug/endpoints. A catalog entry and a usable serving endpoint are not the same thing, so check both. See the model endpoints API reference and available models API reference.Rank #2

Review privacy and provider-routing restrictions
If the exact model is still listed, inspect your OpenRouter privacy settings and routing controls before assuming it was retired. Aider’s OpenRouter guide covers account-level provider ignores, model-level provider routing, provider order, fallback behavior, and data-collection restrictions. These settings can limit which providers are eligible to serve a request. Aider’s OpenRouter guide.

Update the model ID if it is stale or has no usable endpoint
Set Aider’s model to the exact current slug shown by OpenRouter, keeping the
openrouter/prefix and provider portion in Aider’s naming pattern. For example, the Aider troubleshooting page showsopenrouter/deepseek/deepseek-chat, but that documentation example is not a guarantee of current availability. Once you have verified a replacement, pass it with Aider’s
--modeloption, for example:aider --model openrouter/<provider>/<model>. Replace the angle-bracketed parts with the exact provider and model slug you checked. -
Configure Aider metadata only if Aider does not recognize the replacement
If OpenRouter lists the model and it has a usable endpoint but Aider reports an unknown model or lacks local model information, use Aider’s documented model settings or metadata configuration to supply details such as context or cost information. These files change Aider’s local understanding of a model; they do not create an OpenRouter endpoint or restore a retired one. See Aider’s model settings and model metadata documentation.

Choosing what to do if it still fails
Use the checks to distinguish the likely failure point rather than repeatedly changing the model name:

- The ID is listed, but its endpoint data has no usable route: Choose another model with a serving endpoint, or review eligible-provider and fallback settings.
- The endpoint exists, but your routing excludes its provider: Adjust the relevant OpenRouter privacy or provider-routing controls if they match your requirements.
- The model and endpoint are available, but Aider does not recognize the model: Check Aider’s supported model names and configure local settings or metadata if needed.
Catalog slugs and provider endpoints can change. Recheck the live OpenRouter records when troubleshooting instead of treating an older recommendation as a durable replacement.
