To find out whether an NFL tight end is playing, check the player’s row in the official NFL injury report, read the game-status field separately from practice participation, and refresh it close to kickoff. Then check the team’s inactive list when it is posted; NFL Support says teams designate inactives about 90 minutes before scheduled kickoff.
Where to find the official NFL injury report
Use the NFL injury report and locate the player’s individual row. Confirm the player’s name and tight end position before reading the listed injury, practice participation, and game status. These are separate pieces of information, not interchangeable labels. A 2026 Week 4 report illustrates the player-by-player format, but weekly listings change; verify the current report for the relevant game.

How to interpret practice participation and game status
Practice participation
The practice field indicates whether the player fully participated, was limited, or did not participate in a reported practice. Use it to follow the player’s progress during the week, but do not treat a limited or missed practice by itself as a declaration that the tight end will miss the game.
Game status
Read the separate game-status field for the team’s designation. NFL policy defines the current categories this way: Questionable means it is uncertain whether the player will play; Doubtful means the player is unlikely to participate; and Out means the player will not play. Questionable is uncertainty, not confirmation that a player will be active.

When to check for updates
Reporting days depend on when the game is scheduled. The NFL’s 2026 important dates calendar lists the reporting schedule for each day of the week. Clubs must report a change in a player’s condition after the initial game-status report, so an earlier designation may not be the final update.
- During the week: Find the tight end in the official injury report and note the injury and participation listed for each reported practice.
- After the game-status report is filed: Read the actual designation rather than inferring availability from practice alone. Check the calendar for the reporting schedule that applies to the game day.
- Before your lineup locks: Refresh the report and look for a new status or reported change in condition.
- Near kickoff: Check the team’s inactive list when available. NFL Support says inactive designations are made about 90 minutes before scheduled kickoff; that timing is approximate, so check the current team information rather than treating it as an exact release time.
- Before submitting your lineup: Apply your fantasy league’s own lock time and roster rules. The NFL report does not set platform deadlines or scoring rules.
How to compare two tight ends
Use the same availability checks for each player so you are comparing like with like:
Rank #2
- The most recent game-status designation.
- The latest reported practice participation.
- The reporting day or timestamp associated with the update.
- Whether the team has posted its inactive list.
These details help establish availability, not fantasy performance. The official injury report does not tell you which replacement to start, how your platform scores players, or whether a player will produce well if active.
