You can check JBL earbuds battery status in the JBL Headphones app, by reading the earbuds or case LEDs, or—if your phone and earbuds support it—in your phone’s Bluetooth or device display. Which method shows an exact percentage, and whether it reports the earbuds, the case, or both, depends on the specific model.
1. Check the JBL Headphones app
- Pair your earbuds with your phone. Make sure Bluetooth is on and the earbuds are connected.
- Open or install the JBL Headphones app. Update it if needed, then connect or select the correct earbud model.
- Look for the battery information shown for your model. App support and what it displays vary by model; do not assume every JBL earbuds model shows a percentage or uses the same screen layout. JBL adds support for named models through app updates. See the JBL Headphones app release notes.
Some JBL quick-start guides reference the app for their specific models, including the JBL Vibe Flex 2 Quick Start Guide. That does not establish app support or a particular battery display for every JBL model.

2. Read the case or earbud indicator lights
Check the manual for your exact model before interpreting a light. The case indicator may describe the case’s charge, while lights on the earbuds may show charging or full-charge status rather than remaining battery level.
JBL Wave Beam 2
The JBL Wave Beam 2 Quick Start Guide maps the case battery indicator to low/red, mid/orange, and high/green. It also describes separate earbud charging and full-charge indicators. Use those meanings for this model, not as a rule for all JBL earbuds.

JBL Free and Free X
For JBL Free and Free X, JBL says that some of the four dots on the case light to indicate case battery. The white rings on the earbuds light while charging and go out when the earbuds are fully charged. See JBL’s JBL Free charging information.
Other JBL models can use different colors, lights, or patterns. Find the model name—often printed on the case or packaging, or shown as the Bluetooth device name—and consult its guide. If the guide specifies that the earbuds should be in or near the case to show their status, follow that instruction.

3. Check your phone’s Bluetooth or device display
Some phone-and-earbud combinations expose accessory battery status in a Bluetooth or device interface. Whether this works, where the reading appears, and whether it includes a percentage depend on the phone, operating system, Bluetooth implementation, and JBL model. JBL’s official materials do not establish one universal iPhone or Android settings path, so check your phone’s instructions and your earbuds’ guide rather than relying on a single set of steps.
Which battery level are you checking?
Keep the earbuds’ remaining charge separate from the charging case’s charge. A case light may refer only to the case, while an earbud light may indicate charging or full charge. App and phone displays also vary in which components they report; use the labels and explanations in your model’s guide to identify what a reading represents.

If no method shows a useful reading
- Confirm the exact JBL model from the case, packaging, or Bluetooth device name.
- Reconnect the earbuds to your phone and check the app again, if the model supports it.
- Consult the exact model’s official manual for LED meanings and any required placement in or near the case.
- If you are checking the phone display, consult that phone’s instructions; an absent reading does not establish a problem with the earbuds.
