To reduce Free Fire ping on Jio or Airtel, first check the ping shown in the game, then compare your available connections and remove background network traffic. Garena says 150 ms or below is ideal; if gameplay still stutters at that level, the cause may be device or game performance rather than your connection. No carrier or 4G/5G network is best everywhere, so judge by stability where you play.
Check whether high ping is causing the lag
Look at the ping indicator in Free Fire during a match. Garena’s Connection Issues guidance says, “For Free Fire, 150ms and below is the ideal ping.” Garena also reports an average player ping of around 250 ms; that is a figure from its support article, not an independent measurement of all players. Lower and steadier ping is preferable.

If the in-game ping is persistently high or jumps sharply, troubleshoot the connection first. If it is at or below 150 ms while the game still freezes, stutters, or responds slowly, investigate device and game performance instead. Network latency and rendering lag can feel similar but need different fixes.

At the same location, try Wi-Fi and mobile data separately. If your phone and service support both 4G and 5G, compare those too. Garena recommends switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data when available; the 4G/5G comparison is a local test, not evidence that one generation or carrier always performs better.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Use the same phone and playing location for each test.
- Check in-game ping over several minutes, not just once. Note typical latency and whether it spikes or fluctuates.
- Compare signal consistency and any handoffs, and keep background activity as similar as possible.
- Choose the connection with the lowest consistent in-game ping, rather than the one with the “5G” label or the highest download-speed test result.
Garena’s connection guidance supports trying different connections. No verified carrier-wide comparison establishes that Jio beats Airtel, Airtel beats Jio, or 5G always beats 4G for Free Fire. Local coverage, congestion, signal, and routing can change the result.
Stop downloads and background network use
Before launching a match, close apps that are using the network and pause downloads or updates. Other people using the same Wi-Fi can also add load. Garena identifies background apps, downloads, and shared Wi-Fi activity as possible causes of high ping or lag in its connection guidance and troubleshooting instructions.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Check Jio mobile-data APN settings
If Jio mobile data is not configured correctly, follow Jio’s official APN instructions. The documented options are to reset the APN to default or, on Android, configure an APN with both the Name and APN fields set to JioNet. These are mobile-data setup steps, not a guaranteed way to lower Free Fire latency; do not change APN settings expecting a ping improvement if your data service is already configured correctly.

Use Airtel’s network diagnostics if service remains poor
If Airtel service is still unreliable, check Airtel Open Network for coverage information, outage alerts, recent data performance, and diagnostics. Airtel notes that congestion, indoor conditions, outages, and device or SIM issues can affect service. A coverage map is useful context, but it cannot guarantee the signal or ping you will get inside your home or at a particular time.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
When ping looks fine, troubleshoot device lag
For stuttering or slow response with a stable, low in-game ping, follow Garena’s game-lag guidance: check that the device is compatible, lower the game’s graphics settings, update Android, clear temporary cache and unneeded app data, close background apps, and restart the phone.
Garena cautions that many third-party “lag fix” apps provide little or no help. There is no established evidence here that a VPN, DNS edit, or booster app will reduce Free Fire ping, so do not treat one as a proven fix.

Know when to contact support
If a separate speed test also indicates high ping, Garena recommends contacting your internet service provider. If the issue is specific to Free Fire or continues across connections, use Garena’s connection issue reporting instructions and provide the connection information it requests.
