AST SpaceMobile’s “45-satellite” figure is a target for continuous coverage in selected markets—not confirmation that 45 satellites are already operating in orbit. The company’s FAQ targets 45–60 BlueBird satellites by the end of 2026, while its plans put continuous coverage across all targeted markets at approximately 90 satellites. Its latest dated launch milestones listed in the materials are BlueBird 11–13 on August 5, 2026; the exact operational count as of October 7, 2026, is not established.
What the 45-satellite figure means
AST SpaceMobile describes different satellite counts for different service stages. These are company plans and expectations, not guarantees of uninterrupted service at every location.

| Planned constellation scale | Intended coverage stage | What the figure does—and does not—tell you |
|---|---|---|
| 25 satellites: five Block 1 and 20 Block 2 | Noncontinuous service in selected markets | A planned early service phase, not continuous coverage. |
| Approximately 45–60 satellites | Continuous service in selected key markets, including the United States, Europe, and Japan | A selected-market coverage target, not evidence that the satellites have all launched or that service is available everywhere. |
| Approximately 90 satellites | Continuous service across all targeted geographical markets | The company’s planned scale for its broader market goal, not a current operating count. |
Actual coverage is also expected to depend on factors including how many satellites are active in a region and the region’s latitude. So “continuous” describes AST’s intended service scale; it should not be read as a promise of uninterrupted reception at every point.
What had launched by the latest dated milestones
AST’s FAQ sets a goal of 45–60 satellites by the end of 2026. Its mission-history page records BlueBird 8–10 as launched on June 17, 2026, and BlueBird 11–13 on August 5, 2026. The FAQ also lists BlueBird 11, 12, and 13 as launched on August 5.

Those launch records show progress toward the company’s goal; they do not establish how many satellites were operational in orbit on October 7, 2026. The sources do not provide an exact operational inventory for that date, and a launch milestone alone should not be treated as proof of an operational satellite or an available service.
The end-of-2026 goal is conditional
AST describes an average launch cadence of approximately one launch every one to two months. That is a planning rate, not a guaranteed schedule. The company identifies dependencies that include satellite assembly and testing, regulatory approvals, launch-vehicle readiness, launch windows, logistics, financing, and commercial agreements. Accordingly, 45–60 by year-end is a company target, not an achieved or assured result.

How the network is intended to connect phones
AST describes a carrier-partner model designed to connect ordinary mobile devices when they are outside terrestrial cell coverage. Its FAQ names AT&T and Verizon as expected carriers for initial U.S. beta users. The annual report lists definitive commercial agreements with AT&T, Verizon, Vodafone, and STC; other operator relationships may still be preliminary and require definitive agreements before service can be offered in those jurisdictions.
This is not the same as a generally available, standalone AST retail plan. A carrier relationship or planned beta does not by itself confirm that a customer can sign up, that a particular phone is eligible, or that coverage is available at a particular location.

Will it work with your phone, and what will it cost?
AST’s service is described as connecting ordinary mobile devices through participating operators, rather than requiring readers to buy a generic satellite phone, antenna, or booster. But that broad design description does not confirm compatibility for every handset. Check with your carrier for the specific device requirements and whether the service is actually available to you.
AST says operator partners will set prices, which may vary by market. A day pass, monthly add-on, or emergency-use option are examples the company gives—not verified offers currently on sale. Confirm availability, eligibility, coverage, and price directly with your carrier before relying on the service.
Quick Recap
How to read AST’s coverage claims
- Launched is not the same as operational. A dated launch record does not provide a live count of satellites operating in orbit.
- Noncontinuous is not continuous. AST associates 25 satellites with noncontinuous service in selected markets; the 45–60 figure is its intended scale for continuous service in selected key markets.
- Selected markets are not all targeted markets. AST puts the broader continuous-coverage goal at approximately 90 satellites.
- A beta target is not a consumer offer. Carrier participation, device eligibility, regulatory arrangements, location, and availability matter to whether an individual can use the service.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
