Start with its transaction signature and check the correct network using getSignatureStatuses. Read both confirmationStatus and err: a transaction can be processed without being confirmed or finalized, while an explicit error indicates a failed attempt. If no status appears, check its history and blockhash validity before deciding whether to submit anything again.
Why is my Solana transaction pending?
“Pending” is a wallet or application label, not a definitive on-chain outcome. A status check may show that a transaction has been processed but has not yet reached the confirmation level you need. Solana’s commitment stages increase in strength: processed < confirmed < finalized. The right threshold depends on the application; do not treat an earlier stage as finality.

First copy the transaction signature from the wallet or application that submitted it, and make sure your status lookup is querying the same cluster or network. A signature checked on the wrong network will not answer what happened to the transaction.

How do I check whether a Solana transaction failed?
- Look up the signature. Query Solana RPC’s
getSignatureStatusesmethod with the signature. - Read both fields. Inspect
confirmationStatusto see how far the transaction has progressed anderrto see whether execution returned an error. A non-null error is evidence of a failed transaction; an earlier confirmation stage alone is not. - If the result is missing, check history. A missing status is not proof of permanent failure. Use
searchTransactionHistory: truewithgetSignatureStatuseswhen the signature may be outside the recent status cache. - Interpret
getTransactioncarefully. Solana’sgetTransactioncan returnnullwhen the transaction is not found or has not reached the commitment level requested. A null response by itself does not establish that it failed.
The older confirmation helper was removed; Solana’s migration guidance directs callers to status methods instead. Its documentation notes that a missing status or failed transaction mapped to the legacy false result, which is why applications should inspect the actual status and error rather than rely on a single boolean.

How do I tell whether a transaction has expired?
Transactions using a recent blockhash have a limited validity window. The useful check is block height, not a universal wait time in seconds. When constructing the transaction, the sending application should retain lastValidBlockHeight from getLatestBlockhash. Compare it with the network’s confirmed block height from getBlockHeight. Solana’s confirmation guidance recommends waiting until the current block height exceeds the saved last-valid height before treating the transaction as expired.
The transaction pipeline describes a maximum processing age of 150 slots, but that is not a dependable wall-clock timer for an individual user’s transaction. Use its saved validity height and current block height for the operational decision.

- Current height has not passed
lastValidBlockHeight: the transaction may still land. Give status propagation time and check again before deciding to submit another transaction. - Current height is greater than
lastValidBlockHeight: the recent-blockhash transaction has expired. Build a new transaction using a fresh blockhash and obtain signatures for that new message.
What should I do before resending?
Retry only after establishing whether the original transaction is still valid, already landed, or failed. Sending a second transaction while the first might still land can result in the underlying action being submitted twice. Check the signature again, and, if possible, verify the application’s relevant on-chain state before repeating an action with consequences such as a transfer.
If the transaction is still within its validity window
Allow for RPC endpoint lag before concluding that the transaction is stuck. If the application fetches a blockhash from one node but simulates or submits through another, differences in what the nodes know can cause blockhash-recognition problems. Solana’s confirmation guidance recommends matching the preflight commitment used for sending with the commitment used to fetch the blockhash. Use a consistent, healthy endpoint when possible, and avoid creating a replacement transaction just because one status lookup is delayed.

If the transaction has expired
Construct a new message with a fresh blockhash and sign it again. Do not edit the blockhash in the old signed transaction: the blockhash is part of the signed message, and changing it invalidates the existing signatures. Solana’s Partial Signing guidance describes restarting with a new transaction after blockhash expiry.
If the status reports an error
Inspect the RPC error and, where available, simulation or preflight logs to identify which stage or instruction failed. Solana RPC simulation results can include an error and logs; those details are more useful than repeatedly submitting an unchanged transaction. Correct the reported cause first. Examples in Solana’s operational guidance include an expired or unrecognized blockhash, insufficient funds for the fee payer, and insufficient token balance for the instruction.

Will I lose SOL if the transaction fails?
Solana charges its transaction fee even when execution fails. The official fee structure documents a base fee of 5,000 lamports per signature, with an optional prioritization fee; 5,000 lamports per signature is the documented base, not a guarantee that every transaction’s total fee is that amount. The transaction fee is separate from any fee a wallet or service might charge. Check current fee rules and the fee shown by the submitting application before sending.
