To check a video before adding it to a YouTube loop, start an upload in YouTube Studio and review the Copyright check on the Checks page. Wait for the check to finish when practical, then inspect and resolve any issue shown. A completed check is useful screening—not permanent clearance: YouTube says claims or other copyright actions can still arise later.
Run YouTube’s Copyright check before looping the video
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and begin uploading the video you plan to use.
- In the upload flow, open Checks. YouTube’s Copyright check searches the video for copyrighted content. YouTube Help: Upload videos.
- Let the check finish if timing allows. Checks can take some time and continue in the background; you can return to the upload process later. YouTube permits publication while checks are still running, but an unfinished result cannot tell you what the completed check will show.
- If Studio reports an issue, review its details before deciding whether to edit the video, proceed, or use an available claim option. If you do not need to publish yet, wait for the check to complete before adding the video to your loop.
What a match means—and what a clean result does not mean
YouTube says uploaded videos are scanned against a database of audio and visual content submitted by copyright owners. A detected match can lead to a Content ID claim; depending on the rights holder’s policy, a claim may monetize, track, or block the video. Effects can vary by country or region. YouTube Help: Learn about Content ID claims.

A Content ID claim is not the same as a copyright removal request or strike. YouTube says claims usually do not affect a channel or account, while a takedown is a separate process. Do not assume a claim is legally correct simply because it appears, or that a video is fully cleared because no match appears. YouTube describes Checks as non-final: later manual claims, copyright strikes, or changes to video settings can affect the result. YouTube Help: Copyright on YouTube.
Content ID is not a public search engine where creators can query every song or video before upload. It matches uploaded videos against reference content supplied by copyright owners; access to submit reference files is intended for qualifying rights holders who can demonstrate exclusive rights. A preflight check therefore cannot establish that every element in your video is authorized.

Inspect a claim in Studio
- In YouTube Studio, open Content.
- Filter by Claims and find the video.
- In the Restrictions column, hover over Claims, then choose See details.
- Read the claim information, including the claimant and matched content. Check the listed impact and affected geography before deciding what to do. YouTube Help: Learn about Content ID claims.
Choose a response based on the actual issue
- Remove or replace the matched material if you can do so without undermining the video. Check the options Studio makes available for that claim.
- Dispute a claim only when you have a valid basis, such as rights or another defensible reason. A dispute is not a way to test a claim casually; review YouTube’s claim details and guidance before submitting one.
- Prepare rights documentation for third-party material you are entitled to use. Permission may matter, but having a license does not guarantee automated matching will never produce a claim.
- Recheck after changes. Editing or replacing material may change the result, and YouTube says changes to video settings can also affect checks. Review Studio again before relying on a video in a recurring loop.
Before adding a checked video to a recurring loop
- Keep a record of the source and permissions for music, footage, and other third-party elements.
- Review the final version in Studio after edits; do not treat a check on an earlier cut as a check on the cut you will loop.
- Consider how a claim’s monetize, track, or block policy and geography could affect a continuous stream. A clean check cannot rule out later claims.
- If the video is a Short, consult YouTube’s current Shorts-specific copyright guidance: active claims can have additional blocking consequences for certain Shorts lengths, so general long-form expectations may not apply. YouTube Help: Shorts and Content ID claims.
