For the quickest straightforward wired setup, connect iPhone 16 Pro to a USB-C Power Delivery (PD) adapter rated 20W or higher using a USB-C cable. Apple says this setup can charge the phone to about 50% in around 30 minutes in its test conditions; your time will vary. For wireless charging, the phone supports MagSafe up to 25W with a 30W-or-higher adapter, Qi2 up to 15W, and Qi up to 7.5W. Keep the phone and charger ventilated, use undamaged equipment, and avoid charging in excessive heat or while the phone is wet.

What charger does iPhone 16 Pro need?

iPhone 16 Pro has a USB-C connector. For fast wired charging, use a USB-C cable and a USB-C PD power adapter rated at 20W or higher. Apple sells power adapters separately. Its approximately 50%-in-30-minutes figure is based on Apple’s test using pre-production iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max units with specified USB-C and MagSafe equipment in August 2024; it is not a guaranteed charge time. Settings, temperature, and other conditions affect actual results. See Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro technical specifications and charge-speed guidance.

Wireless maximums depend on the standard and equipment. They describe supported peak capability, not a promise that every charger will deliver that power continuously.

Method iPhone 16 Pro listed capability and setup Best fit
USB-C wired About 50% in around 30 minutes with a 20W-or-higher USB-C PD adapter and USB-C cable, under Apple’s test conditions. A direct, simple setup when charging speed matters.
MagSafe Up to 25W with a 30W-or-higher adapter; delivered power varies with the adapter, charger model, and conditions. Magnetic alignment and convenient wireless charging.
Qi2 Up to 15W. A wireless option using a Qi2-certified charger.
Qi Up to 7.5W. Compatibility with a standard Qi charger when a lower listed maximum is acceptable.

These figures come from Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro specifications. A larger wattage printed on an adapter does not by itself guarantee a faster charge: the phone, charger, cable, temperature, and current workload all matter. Apple also notes that wired chargers rated at 7.5W or less and wireless chargers below 10W, such as Qi1, may take longer than expected.

Set up wired or wireless charging

Fast wired charging

  1. Connect a USB-C cable to the iPhone 16 Pro.
  2. Connect the other end to a USB-C PD adapter rated 20W or higher, then plug the adapter into a power outlet.
  3. For the best chance of reaching the expected speed, avoid running demanding apps while charging and keep the phone in a moderate-temperature, ventilated place.

Apple’s fast-charge equipment and time guidance is available in About iPhone charge speeds and Fast charge your iPhone.

MagSafe charging

  1. Use an eligible MagSafe Charger with a 30W-or-higher power adapter for iPhone 16 Pro’s listed up-to-25W mode.
  2. Place the charger face up on a clear, flat surface and connect it to power before placing the iPhone on it for maximum power delivery.
  3. Center the iPhone on the charger and keep cards, security items, and other objects out of the contact area.

Apple’s MagSafe setup and compatibility instructions explain supported adapters and conditions. Connected wired accessories can limit MagSafe charging on iPhone 16 models to 7.5W to comply with regulations.

Keep charging safe and protect battery health

  • Use compliant cables and adapters in good condition. Do not use damaged charging equipment.
  • Keep the phone and adapter ventilated; do not cover them while charging.
  • Do not charge the iPhone when moisture is present. Let the connector and device dry fully before connecting power.
  • For wireless charging, remove metallic cases or objects that interfere with the charging surface. Do not put bank cards or similar magnetic or RFID items between the iPhone and MagSafe Charger.
  • Apple recommends charging between 0°C and 35°C (32°F and 95°F). Avoid direct sun, hot cars, and other hot spaces. Its battery guidance identifies 16–22°C (62–72°F) as an ideal ambient range and warns that charging above 35°C (95°F) can permanently reduce battery lifespan.

If the iPhone pauses charging or displays a temperature warning, move it to a cooler or warmer suitable place and let it return gradually to its normal temperature range. Do not use abrupt cooling methods. A case that traps heat may be removed. Apple’s information on thermally limited charging explains why charging can be limited in hot or cold conditions. For broader precautions, see Apple’s iPhone safety information.

Overnight charging

Apple says it is safe to leave an iPhone connected to a charger overnight: it stops charging when full. Optimized Battery Charging is enabled by default and reduces the time the phone spends fully charged by delaying the final part of charging until near the time Apple predicts you will need the phone. If the charge level falls below 95%, charging may resume. These protections do not remove the importance of keeping the phone cool. See Apple’s battery charging and maintenance guidance.

Why is iPhone 16 Pro charging slowly?

  • Check the adapter and cable. A USB-A adapter limits iPhone 15 and later to 7.5W according to Apple. For the fast wired setup, use USB-C PD and a USB-C cable. A computer, hub, multiport adapter, or pass-through adapter may provide less power because output is shared or reserved.
  • Reduce demanding activity. Graphics-intensive games, camera use, and high-quality video streaming at full brightness can draw power while charging and slow the increase in battery level.
  • Check temperature. Heat or cold can slow or pause charging. Move the phone to a suitable environment and allow it to return to its normal temperature range.
  • For MagSafe, verify the whole setup. Use an eligible MagSafe Charger and a suitable 30W-or-higher adapter for the listed up-to-25W mode. Connected wired accessories may trigger the 7.5W MagSafe limit for iPhone 16 models.
  • Allow for wireless limits. Qi is listed at up to 7.5W and Qi2 at up to 15W; wireless charging below 10W can take longer than expected.

On iOS 26, Apple says Battery settings and the Lock Screen can show an estimate of the time needed to reach the selected charge level. Availability of that estimate is software-version dependent; Apple describes it in its charge-speed guidance.
