Some Samsung Galaxy phones support wireless charging, but it is not available on every model. Check your exact model first; if it supports charging, use a compatible Qi charger, connect it with the specified power adapter, and position the phone so its charging coil lines up with the pad. Fast wireless charging is a separate compatibility check and may require a setting to be enabled.
Which Samsung phones support wireless charging?
Samsung’s US troubleshooting guide lists support across Galaxy S models from the S6 through the S25, selected Galaxy Note models through Note20, and Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip families. It says Galaxy A, XCover, and Tab devices do not support wireless charging. Family names alone are not enough to confirm every model or regional variant, so check the specifications or manual for your exact phone before buying a charger. How to charge a Samsung phone wirelessly
- Confirm model support. Look up the exact Galaxy model in its current Samsung specifications or user manual. If the phone does not support wireless charging, a different pad or setting will not add the capability.
- Choose the right charger. Check that it is Qi-compatible and suitable for your phone. If you want fast wireless charging, verify the relevant Samsung and Wireless Power Consortium certification; a generic wireless-charging label does not establish fast-charge support. Samsung’s compatibility guidance explains this distinction.
- Connect the charger as specified. Use the adapter and cable supplied with the charger, or the ones its manufacturer specifies. Confirm that the power source works and the connections are secure.
- Position the phone. Place its back against the charging surface and align its coil with the charger’s coil. Coil placement varies by phone, and third-party pads may use different coil layouts. For a foldable, follow the placement instructions for that model; Samsung’s guidance says to close the device and place it back-side down.
- Check the charging indicator. If charging does not start, reposition the phone and remove its case or accessories temporarily before working through the troubleshooting checks below.
Wireless charging versus fast wireless charging
A charger may provide ordinary wireless charging without meeting the requirements for Samsung fast wireless charging. Fast charging depends on the phone model, charger certification, power supply, settings, and conditions such as alignment and temperature. Samsung says fast wireless charging is enabled only on devices certified by Samsung and the Wireless Power Consortium. Check Samsung’s certification guidance before treating a pad as a fast charger.

Turn on fast wireless charging
On supported phones, look in Battery or Charging settings for the fast wireless charging option. The setting name and menu path vary by model and software version; consult the phone’s manual if the option is not where expected. Enabling it cannot make an incompatible phone or charger fast-charge.

What to check when wireless charging fails
- Verify the phone supports it. Start with the exact model’s specifications. An unsupported model will not charge wirelessly, regardless of the charger.
- Check the power connection. Make sure the pad is connected to a working power source, and reseat its cable and adapter. Use the power supply specified for that charger.
- Reposition the phone. Move it gradually across the pad to align the coils. If you have a foldable, use its model-specific placement instructions.
- Remove anything between the phone and pad. Test without the case, skin, holder, cards, metal plate, or magnetic accessory. Samsung’s cited US guidance says non-Samsung cases should be no thicker than 5 mm, but thickness alone does not guarantee compatibility: material and design can also interfere.
- Separate basic charging from fast charging. If the phone charges but not quickly, confirm that the phone supports fast wireless charging, its setting is enabled, and the charger has the required certification.
- Let the phone cool. Samsung says high temperature can slow charging or stop it temporarily. Remove the phone from the pad and allow it to cool before trying again.
- Check for software updates. Samsung advises checking for updates if wireless charging disconnects. If compatibility, power, placement, accessories, temperature, settings, and updates do not resolve the issue, contact Samsung Support or arrange service.
How to choose a compatible wireless charger
- Standards and certification: Confirm Qi compatibility for wireless charging. For Samsung fast wireless charging, verify the relevant Samsung and Wireless Power Consortium certification rather than relying on a broad “wireless” claim.
- Phone capability and charger output: Check the exact phone’s supported charging capability and the charger’s specifications. Speeds vary by model and charger.
- Power supply: Confirm the adapter and cable meet the charger manufacturer’s requirements; an unsuitable power source can affect operation.
- Shape and coil alignment: A stand or flat pad needs to hold the phone where its coil aligns with the charger. This may take adjustment, particularly with third-party pads.
- Cases and magnetic accessories: Consider the case material and thickness, plus whether magnetic accessories are compatible with the charger’s design. Why charging time varies
There is no universal time-to-full estimate that applies to Samsung phones on wireless chargers. Charging time depends on the exact phone and charger, the power supply, case and accessory setup, coil alignment, temperature, and settings. Compare published charging figures only when they specify the phone, charger, and test conditions.
