To change Microsoft Edge’s New Tab page on desktop, open a new tab, select the gear-shaped Page settings control, and choose the layout and content options you want. You can also open Settings > New tab page > Customize. Startup pages and the home button have separate controls.

Choose the available options for page layout, background image, quick links, and other page content. The choices shown can vary between Edge versions.

You can also reach the customization controls through Settings > New tab page > Customize, then adjust Page content and Page layout. Use the labels visible in your version of Edge: Microsoft notes that interface changes can roll out gradually, so not every installation will display the same menus or choices (Microsoft Support; Microsoft Support; Microsoft Support).

Choose a layout that suits you
Microsoft’s accessibility guidance describes three example layouts. The names and availability are not guaranteed to match every current installation.

New Tab page, startup page, and home button are different
Customizing what appears when you open a new tab does not necessarily change what Edge opens when it starts or what the home button does.

Microsoft documents these as separate settings (New Tab page settings; startup and home-button settings).
If the New Tab page keeps changing
An extension may be changing the New Tab page setting. Check Edge’s selected New Tab page options, then inspect extensions if the change persists.

edge://extensionsin the address bar and review installed extensions. Disable an extension that modifies the New Tab page if appropriate. -
Enter
edge://policyto inspect browser policies that may affect settings. -
If an extension is marked as managed by your organization, contact your IT administrator before changing or removing it.

On Edge for mobile
Mobile controls are separate from the desktop steps. Microsoft’s mobile FAQ provides one path for home-page options and a different New tab page path for the news feed. Follow the instructions for your mobile platform rather than expecting the desktop gear icon or settings route to match (Microsoft’s mobile FAQ).
