How to Change Your Hosting Server Location in Hostinger

Change an eligible plan’s server location through Plan details in hPanel. Check eligibility, allow for a panel lock, and update DNS records affected by the new IP.

To move an eligible active hosting plan to another server location, open Websites → Dashboard → Plan details. Under Server Details, click the pencil beside the current location, choose an available location, click Next, review the details, then click Start. Hostinger says the change is allowed once every 30 days and can take up to four hours; the hosting panel is locked while it runs. Your hosting IP changes, so check DNS records and any services tied to the old IP.

First, confirm which kind of move you need

Changing a hosting plan’s server location keeps the existing plan in place. It is not the same as moving a website to another plan or account, or migrating it from another provider. Hostinger documents those as separate processes with different steps. See Hostinger’s guide to moving a website within Hostinger if you mean a plan or account move.

If you want the site closer to most of its visitors, check visitor geography in Analytics before choosing a destination. For a worldwide audience, Hostinger suggests considering a CDN, which can deliver copies through geographically distributed proxy servers rather than relocating the origin server.

Check whether your hosting type is eligible

  • Standard active hosting plan: You can change its location to one available in your account. Hostinger permits a location change once every 30 days.
  • Website Builder: The location-change procedure does not apply; Hostinger says Builder includes CDN features.
  • Agency hosting: The server location cannot be changed after purchase.
  • VPS: Its location is fixed after setup. Hostinger’s alternative is to reinstall the VPS in the desired location, which permanently deletes current data, including backups and snapshots. Download a backup before considering this option.

These eligibility rules and the change frequency are stated in Hostinger’s server-location transfer instructions.

Change the server location in hPanel

  1. Open Websites and select Dashboard for the relevant site and plan.
  2. Choose Plan details in the sidebar.
  3. In Server Details, click the pencil icon beside the current server location.
  4. Choose an available location from the dropdown, then click Next.
  5. Review the transfer details and click Start.

Prepare for the transfer and update DNS afterward

While the transfer is running

Hostinger says a server transfer can take up to four hours. The hosting panel is locked during the process. Avoid making changes: new registrations, content, or orders made directly on the site may not be preserved.

After it completes: find the new IP

The hosting IP changes. Hostinger says it emails the new IP when the transfer is complete; you can also find it on the Plan details page.

Check your domain’s DNS records

  • Domain pointed to Hostinger with an A record: Update the record manually to the new IP.
  • Domain pointed to Hostinger nameservers: Hostinger says the change is automatic.
  • Custom subdomain A record: If the domain uses Hostinger nameservers but a subdomain has its own A record, update that record manually after the transfer.

DNS changes can temporarily interrupt the website and email while they propagate. Hostinger says propagation takes a few hours; it does not give a more precise timing guarantee in its transfer guidance.

Update IP-dependent services and temporary domains

Change the IP wherever remote connections, APIs, or scripts depend on the previous address. A temporary hostingersite.com URL will stop working after a server transfer. Connect the real domain before starting, or plan to reconnect it afterward.

If you meant moving the website instead

A location change does not require copying the site between plans. If you actually need a plan or account move, use the instructions for that specific platform and account setup. Hostinger describes ownership transfers for some WordPress sites and manual backup-based moves for PHP/HTML sites; Builder sites have separate restrictions. Its internal move guide explains the distinctions.

For a same-domain WordPress move between plans, Hostinger documents a plugin method for sites under 512 MB, counting files and database, and a manual method using website files, database export/import, and an update to the site’s database configuration. Plans can have different IPs, so DNS may need to propagate. These steps are for website migration, not for changing the server location of an existing plan. See Hostinger’s same-domain WordPress move instructions.

For Builder sites, Hostinger says duplication to another plan is possible within the same account, but online-store products and store settings are not copied. Its guidance does not support moving a Builder site to another Hostinger account. Details are in the Builder move guide.

If you are migrating from an external provider, the process is different again. Hostinger says its migration includes website files and databases but excludes email, cron jobs, DNS records, custom SSL configuration, and FTP accounts; email must be migrated separately. See Hostinger’s external migration guide.
