For an outfit’s alternate look, select it in Locker and choose Edit.
Change or equip an outfit
- From the Fortnite lobby, open Locker in the top menu bar.
- Choose Character, then select the outfit you want.
- Click or select Back to apply it. Your avatar should reflect the selected cosmetics. Epic’s outfit instructions use this sequence.
Epic uses “outfit” for the character cosmetic commonly called a skin. Locker also holds other appearance customizations, including pickaxe styles and weapon wraps. You can open Locker from the matchmaking lobby’s top menu or, when one is available in a match, through a Changing Booth. See Epic’s Locker equip instructions.

Choose an outfit’s alternate style
- In Locker, select the cosmetic whose look you want to change.
- Choose Edit, then select an available style.
Not every cosmetic has alternate styles. Which options appear depends on the item and any required unlocks or included pack content. Epic describes the process in its style-selection guide.
Customize the Default Outfit
The Default Outfit has a separate path from selecting another Locker outfit:
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
- Open Locker > Character > Outfits.
- Select the hanger-and-T-shirt icon at the top left.
- Open the three-dot menu and choose Edit Styles.
- On the Pick Outfit screen, select a Default Outfit.
These steps follow Epic’s Default Outfit instructions.
Restore the current default appearance
To return to the current default outfit, open Locker, select the Outfit icon, choose the tile marked X, then select Save. Epic documents this option in its wardrobe documentation.

Randomize your Locker outfit
Open Locker > Character, open the three-dot menu, and choose Randomize. Epic’s randomization guide describes this option.
Fix a style that does not stay in a preset
If a cosmetic’s selected style is not retained in a preset, remove that cosmetic from the preset, apply the desired style, then add or use the cosmetic in the preset again. Epic outlines this workaround in its style-saving troubleshooting steps.
Rank #3
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
Find controls and other settings
To reach in-game settings, open the menu and select the gear icon. During a match, the menu button depends on your platform: Esc on PC or Mac, Options on PlayStation, Menu on Xbox, or + on Switch. Then choose the tab for your input method: the arrow-keys icon for mouse and keyboard, or the gamepad icon for a controller.
The available settings can depend on the selected game mode. If an option is missing, return to the lobby and select the relevant mode before checking its settings. Epic’s controls and settings guide covers navigation; it does not list every setting available in every mode. Menu names may also vary as Fortnite changes, so follow the labels shown in your game.
