Hallowed Concepts is a paid expansion for Risk of Rain 2, and the base game is required. Released October 8, 2026, it adds two survivors and new stages, enemies, bosses, items and other content. In co-op, one player owning it enables its monsters, levels and items for the whole lobby—but players without it cannot select its new survivors or permanently unlock its content.
What does Hallowed Concepts add?
The expansion introduces two playable survivors, Enforcer and Acolyte, along with new environments, bosses, enemies, trials, items and interactables. It also adds the N’Tormat curio and new music. 2K’s October 8, 2026 patch notes specify 14 Hexes and 11 Hallowed Items. Enforcer is unlocked by default; Acolyte is unlockable.

Those are expansion features, not a claim that every change released on October 8 requires the DLC. The same update also includes base-game and earlier-expansion changes.
Does Hallowed Concepts require the base game or earlier DLC?
You need Risk of Rain 2 to play Hallowed Concepts. Steam’s listing states the base game is required but does not list the other expansions as prerequisites. The listing positions Hallowed Concepts alongside the other expansions, rather than requiring them.

Hallowed Concepts is the fourth named expansion in Steam’s catalog. The catalog lists Survivors of the Void (March 1, 2022), Seekers of the Storm (August 27, 2024), Alloyed Collective (November 18, 2025), and Hallowed Concepts (October 8, 2026). Dates and prerequisite details are from the individual Steam listings and the catalog; the catalog’s Hallowed Concepts date field was stale when checked, so the dated publisher notes are the stronger confirmation of its launch. Does everyone in co-op need to own it?
No. Steam says one player needs to own Hallowed Concepts for its monsters, levels and items to appear for the whole lobby. Ownership still matters for individual access: players without the expansion cannot choose Enforcer or Acolyte, or permanently unlock its new items, logbooks or other expansion content. Shared appearance in a run is not the same as each player owning the DLC.

Which platforms is it available on?
2K lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for the October 8, 2026 release, and the PlayStation Store has a PS5 listing. The available official sources do not establish support for Nintendo Switch or older-generation consoles; a listing for the base game on a platform does not confirm that this expansion is available there.

What is paid DLC and what arrived in the free update?
The October 8 update bundled expansion content with changes to the base game and previous DLC. Therefore, seeing a change arrive in the same patch does not by itself mean Hallowed Concepts ownership is required to access it. The patch notes distinguish the expansion’s additions—including its survivors, new locations and the listed Hexes and Hallowed Items—from other update changes.
