Choose the instructions for the device you use
Google defines a signature as text automatically added to the end of Gmail messages. A signature configured in Gmail on a computer and a mobile signature configured in the Gmail app are handled separately. Google says new messages sent from the app use the computer signature if you have not created an app signature.

- Open Gmail and select Settings at the top right.
- Select See all settings.
- On the General tab, scroll to Signature. Select the signature you want to edit, or create one, and enter your text. Google also supports text styling and adding an image.
- At the bottom of the page, select Save Changes.
Google documents a limit of 10,000 characters for a signature; its help page does not state a year for that limit. An image counts toward the limit. If Gmail reports an error, Google recommends resizing the image. See Google’s computer signature instructions.

Set a mobile signature in the Gmail app
Android
- Open the Gmail app and tap Menu.
- Scroll down and tap Settings.
- Choose the Google Account you want to update.
- Tap Mobile signature, enter the signature, and tap OK.
These steps configure the signature for messages sent from the Gmail app. If you have not created an app signature, Google says new app messages use the signature set up on a computer. See Google’s Android instructions.
iPhone and iPad
- Open the Gmail app and tap Menu > Settings.
- Under Compose and Reply, tap Signature settings.
- Turn on Mobile Signature, then add or edit the text.
- Tap Back to save.
If the Gmail app has multiple accounts, change the setting for each account that needs its own signature. If no app signature is set, Google says new app messages use the computer signature. See Google’s iPhone and iPad instructions.

Use multiple signatures or a different one for replies
Gmail on a computer supports multiple signatures. In the Signature settings, you can choose defaults for new messages and replies, then select a different signature while composing with the Insert signature control. Google’s help page states a 10,000-character limit; an image counts toward it. Details are in Google’s computer instructions.
Assign a signature to a different sending address
If you use Send mail as to send from more than one address, Gmail lets you assign a different signature to each address. In the computer Signature settings, select the address from the dropdown above the signature box. If the dropdown is missing, Google advises checking that the addresses are listed under Accounts and Import > Send mail as. See Google’s instructions for signatures and sending addresses.

Delete a computer signature
- In Gmail, select Settings > See all settings.
- On General, scroll to Signature and choose the signature to remove.
- Select Delete and confirm.
- Select Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
