How to Change Touchpad Scrolling Direction and Speed in Windows 11

Change the direction of two-finger scrolling in Windows 11 and find out whether your touchpad and Windows build offer a separate scroll-speed setting.

To reverse two-finger scrolling, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad > Scroll & zoom and change Scrolling direction, if that option is available. Scroll-speed controls are different: they may appear on some updated Windows 11 devices, but availability depends on the Windows build and touchpad configuration. The pointer-speed slider changes cursor movement, not how far a two-finger swipe moves page content.

How to reverse two-finger touchpad scrolling

  1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
  3. Expand Scroll & zoom.
  4. Under Scrolling direction, choose the option that matches how you want content to move when you swipe. The wording can vary; test it with a two-finger vertical swipe on a web page or in a document.

Windows supports scrolling by placing two fingers on the touchpad and sliding vertically or horizontally. In Microsoft’s documented default mapping, moving your fingers upward scrolls content downward; reversing the direction setting changes that mapping. Microsoft’s touch-gesture guide explains touchpad gestures and where to find touchpad settings, while Microsoft Learn’s Precision Touchpad tuning page describes the direction option.

Can you change touchpad scroll speed?

Possibly, depending on your Windows 11 update and touchpad. Microsoft’s Precision Touchpad tuning page says, “There is currently no way to modify the scrolling or zooming speed of a touchpad.” However, Windows Central reported on August 4, 2026 that Windows 11 updates introduced scroll- and zoom-speed controls, including accelerated scrolling, for precision touchpads. Microsoft has not established a generally available build or device-compatibility list in the cited documentation, so do not assume every Windows 11 PC has the controls. Windows Central’s August 4, 2026 report describes the newer controls.

Check your device’s available controls

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad > Scroll & zoom.
  2. Look for a separate setting explicitly named for scroll speed, zoom speed, or accelerated scrolling, if present.
  3. Adjust that control and test a two-finger swipe in a document or web page.

If you see only a pointer-speed control, that changes how quickly the cursor moves; it does not set the distance page content travels during a two-finger scroll. The mouse-wheel scrolling slider is also for wheel scrolling, not touchpad panning.

Why a touchpad option may be missing

Available settings depend on the touchpad’s capabilities and the device’s software configuration. Some gestures and tuning options require a Precision Touchpad, and not every Windows 11 touchpad exposes the same controls. Microsoft documents these device-dependent differences in its Windows touch gestures guide.
