What’s actually slowing this PC down?

On Windows 11, you change haptic click intensity in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad, under Touchpad feedback. That control appears only on touchpads that support haptics, so if you don’t see it, the hardware or its driver is the first thing to check. The steps below cover where to find it, what the intensity levels actually mean, how it differs from the click-force setting, and what to do when it is missing.
Change the haptic click intensity
These steps apply to Windows 11 on a laptop or device with a haptic (non-moving, vibration-based) touchpad.

- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices in the left pane.
- Select Touchpad.
- Look for the Touchpad feedback section and adjust its intensity control to make the simulated click feel stronger or weaker.
- Click the touchpad a few times to confirm the new strength before you leave the page.
Microsoft documents the Touchpad feedback controls as conditional on supported hardware, and the exact options can differ between devices. If your touchpad has no haptic hardware, the section will not appear at all.

What the intensity levels mean
Microsoft’s precision touchpad tuning guidance describes the underlying intensity range as 0 to 100. The Windows interface does not expose every value in that range; it moves in steps of 25. Across 0 to 100, those steps correspond to five positions: 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100.
#1 Best Overall
- Windows Only: The Large Wired Trackpad for Windows10/11 is compatible with Windows 11, Windows 10, PC, laptops and desktop computers. Note: Not compatible with Mac/Chrome OS/Linux. Not recommended for use on other systems. Some touchpad gestures or functions may be missing
- Convenient left and right physical clicks: The wired trackpad supports physical clicks of the left and right buttons at the bottom to realize the left and right mouse button functions. It also supports full-area single-click to realize the left mouse button function and two-finger single-tap for right mouse clicks, which is convenient for you to select text/documents and drag large areas easily
- How to drag files and select text: Double-click with one finger + hold/slide to drag files or select text
- Multiple gestures support: The touchpad supports multiple gestures and supports up to four-finger operation, which is smoother than the laptop touchpad operation. Fast and sensitive response, at your fingertips. Multiple functions, including smooth screen clicks, scrolling up and down pages, pinching to enlarge photos, etc.
- How to adjust the touchpad cursor speed: Open "Windows Settings" → "Bluetooth and other devices" → "Touchpad". Adjust the "Cursor Speed" slider to suit your preference (slower ← → faster)
Treat these as relative levels. They tell you how strong the simulated click is compared with the other settings on the same device. They are not calibrated physical force measurements, so a value of 75 on one laptop will not necessarily feel identical to 75 on another model.
Haptic intensity, click-force sensitivity, and touchpad sensitivity
Three different settings are easy to confuse. They change different things, and only one of them changes the feel of the click itself.

| Setting | What it changes | Where it is documented |
|---|---|---|
| Haptic feedback intensity (Touchpad feedback) | The relative strength of the simulated vibration and click sensation | Microsoft’s precision touchpad tuning guidance and the Windows Precision Touchpad collection guidance; the host configures it when the touchpad supports it |
| Click-force sensitivity | How much press force is needed before a click registers | Microsoft Learn’s TOUCHPAD_PARAMETERS_V1 reference, which describes it as a parameter separate from feedback intensity |
| Touchpad sensitivity | How the touchpad responds to pointer and gesture input | Not a haptic setting; do not use it to describe click strength |
If you want the click to feel stronger, change haptic intensity. If you find yourself pressing hard before a click registers, the force-related parameter is the one that governs that behaviour. The Microsoft API reference describes click-force sensitivity as supported hardware behaviour, so it is not guaranteed on every touchpad.

When Touchpad feedback is missing
A missing Touchpad feedback section does not on its own mean Windows is broken. The control is shown only when the installed touchpad reports haptic support. Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm the touchpad is a haptic model. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for your exact model. Many touchpads are conventional mechanical designs and will never show this control.
- Update the touchpad driver through Windows Update. Open Settings > Windows Update, select Advanced options, then Optional updates, and install any driver updates offered for the touchpad.
- Update or reinstall the driver in Device Manager. Right-click Start, select Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices, right-click your touchpad, and choose Update driver. If that does not help, uninstall the device, restart the PC, and let Windows reinstall it.
- Contact the PC manufacturer. If updating or reinstalling the driver does not restore the control on a touchpad that should support it, Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance recommends contacting the manufacturer, who can confirm the correct driver and configuration for your model.
Microsoft’s general touchpad settings route is the same Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad path. Some touchpad features work only with precision touchpads, which is another reason the feedback section may be absent on older or non-precision hardware. Microsoft’s touch gestures documentation covers the wider set of touchpad features.
