To change a Samsung refrigerator’s temperature, identify the control-panel style, then adjust the fridge and freezer separately. Button panels usually cycle through settings; arrow panels typically require you to select a compartment and confirm; Family Hub models may use the screen or SmartThings. The exact steps and recommended temperatures vary by model and market, so use your refrigerator’s manual if the controls do not match these instructions.
How to change the setting on your Samsung refrigerator
Temperature controls differ across Samsung models. Check the labels and symbols on your panel before changing anything; the displayed value is the selected setting, not necessarily a live measurement of the food’s temperature.

Separate Fridge and Freezer buttons
- Press Fridge to change the refrigerator compartment, or Freezer to change the freezer.
- Press the same button repeatedly until the desired setting appears. Depending on the model, the setting may change by degrees or bars and cycle back to the highest setting after the lowest.
On some models, repeated presses can also reach Power Cool. Check the manual if the display shows a mode rather than the temperature you intended.
Arrow buttons and a central select control
- If the display is asleep, tap a button to wake it.
- Use the left or right arrow to select Fridge or Freezer, then press the center select control.
- Use the arrows to choose the setting and confirm it. On the panel described in Samsung’s UK instructions, the selection confirms after about five seconds; other models may work differently.
Family Hub screen or app
Samsung US says Family Hub owners can adjust temperature through SmartThings; older models may use Fridge Manager. Samsung India’s guide for certain screen-equipped models describes swiping left from Home, opening Fridge Manager and Fridge Temperature, choosing a preset or adjusting with arrows, and tapping OK. Screen menus and app compatibility can vary, so follow the instructions for your exact model.

Convertible compartments
Some top-freezer and upright models have a Freezer Convert or Fridge On/Off control. Holding it for three seconds may cycle compartment modes. This changes how the compartment is used; it is not the same as adjusting its normal temperature setpoint.
What temperature should you set?
There is no single exact Samsung setting for every country and model. Use the recommendation for your market and check your model manual. Samsung’s guidance differs slightly among the US, Canada, and UK:

For models that show bars instead of degrees, Samsung’s US and Canadian guidance identifies three lit bars as the recommended standard setting for both compartments in those markets. Do not assume a bar count has the same meaning on every model or in every region.
How to check the actual temperature
A setting on the display does not prove that the compartment has reached that temperature. Samsung notes that conditions vary within the refrigerator: the back and bottom are colder, and opening the door lets warm air in.

- INSTALLATION AND DIAGNOSIS – Disconnect refrigerator power before servicing. Inaccurate temperature readings or unstable cooling may also be caused by damaged wiring, fans, control boards or other components, so confirm the original sensor is faulty before replacement.
- Refrigerator: Put a thermometer in a glass of water near the center of the compartment.
- Freezer: Place a thermometer among frozen food packages, not in water.
- Give it time: Samsung says an accurate reading may take up to eight hours with the doors unopened. A refrigerator thermometer can help verify the actual temperature.
After changing a setting, avoid repeatedly adjusting it before the appliance has had time to respond. Samsung Canada says the display may take up to four hours to update and the interior can take up to 28 hours to stabilize with the doors closed. Samsung US recommends waiting 28 hours before rechecking after a warm reading.

If the refrigerator is still too warm
- Confirm that the panel responded and that you followed the procedure for your model. If the labels or controls differ, consult the model-specific manual guidance.
- Keep the doors closed while the temperature settles, then check the actual temperature rather than relying only on the display.
- Check that nothing is preventing the doors from sealing and that shelves are not overcrowded in a way that blocks airflow.
- If it remains warm, follow Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance or contact Samsung support.
