To change the background on PS5, open the Welcome hub from the home screen, choose Change Background, then select an image source. Sony’s current instructions describe this as changing the Welcome hub background, not every screen or app on the console.
Change the PS5 Welcome hub background
- From the PS5 home screen, open the Welcome hub.
- Select Change Background.
- Choose an image from From PlayStation, Games, or Media Gallery, then select the image you want. PlayStation says the choices include designs, some with animated effects, and screenshots in your Media Gallery. See PlayStation’s Welcome hub instructions.
Choose a background source or display style
| Option | What it does |

| From PlayStation | Choose a design offered by PlayStation; some designs have animated effects. |
| Games | Choose a background associated with a game. |
| Media Gallery | Use an image such as a screenshot saved in your Media Gallery. |
| Slideshow | Cycle through images from an album. Turn on Slideshow and set the album in the background options. |
| Showcase | Display the full Welcome hub background while the console is idle. |
These settings apply to the Welcome hub. PlayStation’s instructions do not say that they replace the backgrounds used by games or other areas of the interface.

If the Welcome hub or option is missing
The documented steps require no separate product; they are performed through the console interface. Menu names and availability may differ by region or software version. Sony announced the Welcome hub in September 2024 and said it would roll out by region over the following weeks, so that announcement does not establish that the feature is available identically in every region today.
