What the rename changes
Server Name is the label players see when they identify the dedicated server in Server Manager. Changing it does not, by itself, rename the world save or alter the save’s internal session name.

Satisfactory’s interface can show two similar-looking settings. The distinction matters because changing the wrong field can make it appear that the rename failed.

The exact control can vary by game version or hosting interface. One installation may show a Server Name text field, while another may present a Change Server Name button. Both labels refer to the same basic operation: edit the server’s display name and save the setting.

Before you start
Use an administrator account
Server settings are normally protected. Have the server’s administrator password available. In some versions, selecting the server opens an administrator dialog with fields or buttons labelled Administrator Password, Authenticate, and Confirm. Your wording may differ, but you must complete the authentication step before the settings can be changed.
Know which control panel actually runs the server
If a hosting company operates the server, the game’s Server Manager is still where the setting is commonly edited, while the host’s web panel is where you restart the process. Keep both available: the in-game rename and the panel restart serve different purposes.
Record the old name and back up saves if you plan to edit a session
A normal Server Name change should not require downloading or modifying save files. Make a backup before attempting any save-editor procedure for a Session Name, because a malformed or damaged save can prevent the world from loading.
Step-by-step: change the Server Name
- Start Satisfactory. At the main menu, choose Server Manager.
- Select the server. Click the dedicated server whose displayed name you want to change. Selecting the correct entry is important if you manage more than one server.
- Authenticate as administrator. Enter the administrator password when prompted, then choose Authenticate and Confirm if those buttons are present. If authentication fails, verify the password in the hosting panel rather than repeatedly submitting guesses.
- Open Server Settings. Select the Server Settings tab or menu item. Look for a field labelled Server Name. Some releases or host interfaces instead show a Change Server Name action.
- Enter the new name. Replace the existing value with the name you want players to see. Check the spelling, capitalization, and spaces before saving.
- Save the setting. Select Apply. If your interface uses a differently labelled confirmation button, use the control that saves the server settings.
- Verify the result. Return to the server list or reconnect through Server Manager and check whether the new name is shown. The running server may need to be restarted before every client sees the change.
Do not rename a .sav file as part of this procedure. A save-file filename and the displayed Server Name are separate pieces of information.

If the old name is still displayed
Restart from the hosting panel
The standard recovery step reported by hosting support guides is a restart initiated from the host’s control panel. Stop or restart the Satisfactory server using the panel’s normal controls, wait until the process has fully stopped, and start it again. Then reopen Server Manager and check the name.
A restart of the game client alone is not equivalent to restarting the dedicated-server process. If you only closed and reopened Satisfactory, repeat the operation through the panel that controls the server.
Confirm that you edited Server Name
Return to Server Manager > Server Settings and inspect both similarly named fields. If you changed Session Name instead of Server Name, the server’s displayed label will remain unchanged. Edit the Server Name field, select Apply, and restart the server if necessary.
Check administrator access
If the field is read-only, the Apply control is unavailable, or your value disappears when you leave the page, authenticate again with an administrator account. A player who can join the server may not have permission to edit its settings.

Account for interface differences
Labels are not identical in every version. Look for the function rather than an exact phrase: Server Settings, Server Name, Change Server Name, and Apply may appear as tabs, buttons, or fields. If none of these controls exists, update the game and server software through your host’s normal maintenance process before attempting file-level changes.
Server Name versus Session Name
Why the distinction causes confusion
Both values are presented as names, but they are used at different layers. Server Name identifies the dedicated-server entry. Session Name belongs to the game session and its save-related metadata. Editing one does not reliably edit the other.

Renaming a session name
The ordinary Server Manager rename procedure is established for Server Name, not for changing a session name inside an existing save. A third-party save-editor workflow is sometimes suggested: download the save, modify its session-name data with a compatible tool, and upload the edited save. Treat this as an advanced workaround rather than a standard setting.

- Stop the dedicated server so the save is not being written while you copy it.
- Download the relevant save through your host’s file manager or FTP access.
- Create and retain an untouched backup copy.
- Use a save editor that explicitly supports the Satisfactory save format and change only the session-name value.
- Upload the edited save to the original location, preserving the filename and permissions.
- Start the server and verify that the world loads before deleting the backup.
Host interfaces differ: some provide a browser-based file manager, while others expect FTP. Do not delete or overwrite files unless you can restore the original save.
Avoid a trailing period
A community report describes a session name ending in a period causing a save crash when blueprints were saved. Windows removes a trailing period from folder names, creating a mismatch with the expected path. For compatibility, finish a session name with a letter or number rather than a period.

Changing the filename of a save does not automatically change the session name stored inside it. If your goal is only to change the dedicated server’s visible label, use Server Name in Server Settings instead of touching the save.

Should you edit server files directly?
For a normal Server Name change, direct file editing is unnecessary. The supported-looking path described by multiple hosting guides is Server Manager, Server Settings, Server Name, and Apply, followed by a panel restart if required.
A community thread points to a wiki procedure in which deleting a file named in the pattern ServerSettings.<port> resets values such as the password, Server Name, and Session Name. That procedure is not confirmed here by an official Satisfactory source. Deleting the file can remove more than the one value you intended to change, so do not use it as a first-line rename method. If a host instructs you to try it, make a complete backup and obtain confirmation of the exact filename and port before deleting anything.
A safe rename checklist
- Confirm that you selected the intended server in Server Manager.
- Have the administrator password ready.
- Open Server Settings, not a save-management screen.
- Edit Server Name, not Session Name, for a browser-label change.
- Select Apply and record the new spelling.
- Restart through the hosting panel if the old label persists.
- Do not rename a
.savfile expecting the server label to change. - Back up the save before attempting any session-name edit.
- Avoid session names that end with a period.
What is confirmed and what can vary
The consistent procedure across hosting instructions is to authenticate in Server Manager, open Server Settings, change Server Name, apply the setting, and restart the dedicated server when the new value is not immediately visible. The precise button labels are not uniform across versions, and an official developer page confirming every current label and reset behavior was not available. Use the function names above as a guide, and rely on your host’s current panel documentation for version-specific controls.
