To change the number of players allowed in a Soulmask tribe, edit the setting named Max Tribe Capacity in a hosted-server control panel or change Tribe Persons under the game’s Coefficient Settings. Stop the server and back up its configuration before saving. A startup option called -GongHuiMaxMember=N appears in third-party guides, but its support and default value are not confirmed, so use it only when your host or current build documents it.

Which setting controls tribe membership?
Soulmask servers expose several similarly named limits. The setting that controls human players in one tribe is usually labeled Max Tribe Capacity in a hosting panel or Tribe Persons in the in-game coefficient menu. Some guides refer to the same type of limit with the startup key GongHuiMaxMember. These labels are not guaranteed to be present in every server build or hosting interface, so match the label you actually see rather than changing an unrelated recruitment value.

The often-quoted number 20 should therefore be read as a listed default, not a promise that every Soulmask server starts at 20. The 50 associated with recruitment is not a tribe-player limit.
Prepare the server before editing
Changing a live configuration can disconnect players or be overwritten by a panel’s next restart. Use this preparation sequence regardless of which route you choose:

- Identify who manages the server. A rented dedicated server normally has a control panel. A self-hosted installation may expose a launch-parameter field or editable configuration files instead. Make sure you have an administrator account and access to the server’s save and configuration areas.
- Tell players about a maintenance window. Ask everyone to log out and announce the planned restart. Do not change membership limits while a save is actively writing if you can avoid it.
- Stop the server cleanly. The hosted-panel guidance specifically recommends stopping the server before editing configuration files. A clean stop reduces the chance of a partial write or a rollback to the previous value.
- Back up the configuration and world save. Download the relevant configuration files, or use the panel’s backup function. Keep the original file untouched so you can restore it if the server fails to start or the value is ignored.
- Record the old value. Write down the exact label, number, and file or panel location. This makes a rollback possible and helps you determine whether a later restart actually applied the change.
- Change one membership setting at a time. Do not alter tribe capacity, recruitment limits, player caps, and other coefficients in the same test. Isolating the change makes troubleshooting much faster.
Configuration syntax and precedence have not been officially documented in one authoritative Soulmask reference. A provider’s interface may also vary by game build. If a label is absent, do not substitute a similarly named key without confirming what it controls.
Change the limit in a hosted-server panel
BisectHosting’s published route uses the server configuration panel and calls the field Max Tribe Capacity. The wording of buttons can vary, but the workflow is:

- Open the server control panel and select the Soulmask instance you want to modify. Check the instance name or address so you do not edit a test server by mistake.
- Stop the server. Wait until the panel reports that it is fully stopped; do not edit while it still shows a starting, stopping, or saving state.
- Open the Config Files dropdown. This is the menu identified in the provider’s instructions for configuration edits.
- Select Server Settings. Use the panel’s search box if one is available and search for
Max Tribe Capacity. - Enter the desired whole number. Use the number of human players you want in one tribe. Avoid entering a blank value, decimal, negative number, or text. If the panel displays an allowed range, follow that range rather than forcing a larger value.
- Save or apply the setting. Wait for the panel to confirm the write. If it offers a restart prompt, leave the server stopped until you have checked that the saved value is still present.
- Start the server from the panel. Watch the console or status page for a normal startup. If the server returns to the previous number, another configuration source may be overriding the panel value.
- Test with an administrator account. Open the tribe management screen, invite a test player, and attempt one additional invite beyond the old limit only if doing so is safe for your world. Confirm that the displayed capacity and actual invite behavior agree.
If your panel does not contain Max Tribe Capacity, do not assume that Tribe Recruitment limit is equivalent. Ask the host which field maps to the maximum number of human members for the current Soulmask build.
Change it through Coefficient Settings in the game
Citadel Servers describes an in-game route using the Coefficient Settings menu. This is useful when the server exposes gameplay coefficients directly rather than presenting a separate server-settings page.

- Join the server with administrator privileges. A normal player may be able to view gameplay settings but not save server-wide changes.
- Open the server’s settings interface and choose Coefficient Settings. The exact button or administrator command can differ by build, so use the label shown by your server.
- Open the General tab. Look for the field named Tribe Persons.
- Read the existing number before changing it. Citadel’s documentation lists 20 as the default. Treat that figure as a reference, not proof that your server currently uses it.
- Replace the value with the desired maximum and apply the change. Enter a whole number accepted by the interface; if the game rejects the value, use the largest value it permits instead of editing a different coefficient.
- Restart if the interface requests it. Some settings apply immediately and others are read only when the server initializes. A controlled restart is the safest way to establish a clean test.
- Verify from the tribe screen. Check the capacity display and test an invitation with a spare account or consenting player. Existing members should remain; the change is intended to affect the maximum, not erase the tribe.
If Tribe Persons is missing from the General tab, your server may be using a host-managed configuration, a different build, or a permissions-restricted settings menu. Do not create a new field by guessing its spelling.

Because those figures conflict and no official Soulmask documentation confirms the parameter, its availability, spelling, default, and precedence are uncertain.
When it is reasonable to try
- Your hosting provider explicitly documents the parameter for the current Soulmask server version.
- The panel has a dedicated startup-arguments field and warns that the option is passed to the game server, rather than inserted into an unrelated configuration file.
- You have a backup and a maintenance window, and you can remove the argument quickly if the server fails to start.
How to test it safely
- Stop the server and copy the current startup arguments somewhere safe.
- Add the parameter exactly once, with no quotation marks around the whole entry unless the panel’s instructions require them. For example, a documented test value might be
-GongHuiMaxMember=50. - Start the server and inspect the startup log for an error or an explicit acknowledgment. Absence of an error does not prove that the game used the value.
- Check the tribe interface and test an invitation. If the limit is unchanged, remove the parameter rather than stacking it with another guessed key.
- Restore the original arguments if the server will not start, repeatedly crashes, or resets the setting after a restart.
Do not present this parameter as a guaranteed alternative to Max Tribe Capacity or Tribe Persons. A server can accept an unknown argument silently, ignore it, or let another configuration source override it.

Guides for Soulmask often mention a Tribe Recruitment limit, sometimes represented as GongHuiMaxZhaoMuCount, with 50 listed as a default. That limit concerns recruitment—typically NPC recruitment or the number of recruits associated with a tribe—not the number of human players who can join. The per-player NPC recruit limit is separate again.
Use the recruitment setting when the problem is “we cannot recruit more NPCs.” Use Max Tribe Capacity, Tribe Persons, or a provider-confirmed equivalent when the problem is “we need another human player in the tribe.” Changing the wrong value can appear to do nothing while still altering the game’s recruitment behavior.
What if the new value does not apply?
The field saves but the old limit remains
- Confirm that the server was stopped before the edit and fully restarted afterward.
- Reopen the setting and check whether the new number persisted. If it reverted, an automated configuration template or a second settings file may be rewriting it.
- Make sure you changed the active server instance, not a staging instance or a similarly named world.
- Check for a second control path. A startup argument, coefficient menu, and panel file may all target the same behavior, with one taking precedence.
- Ask the host which field is authoritative for the current game build rather than adding undocumented keys.
The server will not start after editing
- Stop any repeated restart loop from the panel.
- Restore the backed-up configuration or remove the last startup argument you added.
- Start with the known-good value and confirm that players can connect before attempting another change.
- Provide the host with the exact old and new values and the time of the change; do not send an unredacted file if it contains credentials.
The capacity display changes but invitations still fail
- Verify that the joining player is not already in another tribe or blocked by an unrelated server rule.
- Check whether the displayed number is a recruitment or NPC count rather than human-player capacity.
- Test after a full restart if you changed the value during a live session.
- Use a single test invitation at a time so you can distinguish a true capacity limit from a permissions or connection problem.
Existing members disappear or the tribe becomes inconsistent
Do not keep experimenting on the live world. Stop the server, restore the most recent world and configuration backup, and contact the host before making another edit. A membership-capacity change should not require deleting a tribe or recreating characters.
How to verify the change without risking the world
- Record the setting location and the exact value after saving.
- Restart once, then confirm that the value remains present.
- Have the tribe leader open the membership panel and note the displayed maximum.
- Invite one consenting test account or player. Do not remove established members solely to test the limit.
- Check the server log or panel status for startup errors, configuration resets, or warnings.
- Keep the backup until the tribe has operated normally through a later restart. If the limit reverts after that restart, the change is not persistent.
A successful test means both the configuration value persists and the game permits the additional human member. A changed text field by itself is not proof that the running server accepted the setting.
Choosing a sensible capacity
Set the smallest value that solves the group’s actual problem. A larger tribe affects coordination, shared progression, and the number of people who can act under one tribe identity. It may also make recruitment and permissions harder to manage. Because no universal maximum is established in the available documentation, use the range accepted by your panel or current build rather than assuming that any integer will work.
