Set the per-player vehicle limit in ServerConfig.toml. Stop the BeamMP server, open the [General] section, change the integer MaxCars value, save the file, and restart the server. For BeamMP Server v3.2.0 and later, the BEAMMP_MAX_CARS environment variable can override the file; a Lua plugin using MP.Set can change the value temporarily at runtime.

What MaxCars controls
MaxCars is the maximum number of vehicles one player may have on the server at a time. It is a per-player limit, not a server-wide vehicle pool. If a player attempts to spawn another vehicle after reaching the limit, BeamMP deletes the additional vehicle instantly.

The official field description calls it “The maximum number of cars per player.” It also states: “Any additional cars a player tries to spawn will be deleted instantly.” This behavior makes the setting useful for controlling clutter and server load without changing how many people may join.
Use an integer of 1 or greater. The documented range accepts any number greater than or equal to 1; do not rely on zero or negative values.

Before you edit the configuration
- Take the server offline first. Stop the BeamMP process, or otherwise prevent players from connecting, before editing the file. This avoids saving over a change while the server is running and gives every connected player a clean transition.
- Identify the active working directory. The file is commonly beside
BeamMP-Server.exe, but the server’s working directory determines whichServerConfig.tomlis actually loaded. A launcher, service, shortcut, or container can use a different working directory from the executable’s folder. - Record the current value. Keeping the old number makes it easy to revert if the new limit does not suit your players or server resources.
- Use plain integer syntax. Do not add quotes, units, commas, or a decimal point to the value.
Persistent method: edit ServerConfig.toml
Changing the TOML file is the normal choice when the limit should survive every restart.
- Stop the BeamMP server. Shut down the server process using the method you normally use to administer it. Wait until it has fully exited.
- Open the server’s active configuration file. Locate
ServerConfig.tomlin the BeamMP server working directory. In a straightforward installation it is besideBeamMP-Server.exe; if the server is started from another directory, use that working directory instead. - Find the
[General]section. Look for the existingMaxCarsentry. If the file has the setting already, edit only its number. Keep the spelling and capitalization exactly asMaxCars. - Set the desired integer. For a five-car limit, the section should contain:
[General]
MaxCars = 5- Save the file. Make sure the editor did not append an extra extension such as
.txtand that the value remains inside the[General]section. - Start or restart BeamMP Server. The persistent value is read when the server starts. A running process will not be updated merely because the file changed.
- Test with a player. Spawn vehicles up to the chosen number, then attempt one more. Vehicles beyond the limit should be deleted instantly. If the behavior differs, work through the troubleshooting section rather than increasing unrelated settings.
Where ServerConfig.toml really is
Many installations place the configuration next to the server executable, which is why the setup guide commonly directs administrators to that folder. The manual’s important qualification is that the working directory controls the actual location. This matters when you start BeamMP through a scheduled task, service manager, wrapper script, container, or shortcut that specifies another directory.
If an edit appears to have no effect, do not assume the setting is unsupported. First establish which directory the running process uses, then open the ServerConfig.toml in that directory. Editing a second copy elsewhere changes nothing because BeamMP never reads it.

After locating the active file, check that there is only one relevant MaxCars entry in the [General] section. Preserve the TOML structure and avoid placing the key under a different section.
Choosing a sensible value
BeamMP accepts any integer at least 1, so the right number depends on how many vehicles you want each player to maintain. The setting does not create a separate allowance for each vehicle type and does not increase the number of players the server can host.

Use the smallest limit that supports the way your server is played. A lower value reduces the number of simultaneous vehicles a single player can leave in the world; a higher value gives players more flexibility but permits more vehicles to accumulate. The documented behavior is per player, so changing this number does not directly change another player’s allowance.

MaxCars is not MaxPlayers
MaxCars and MaxPlayers control different things. MaxCars limits vehicles owned or spawned by each individual player. MaxPlayers controls server capacity. Raising or lowering MaxPlayers will not change how many cars one player may spawn, and changing MaxCars will not change the connection limit.
When diagnosing a vehicle-count problem, verify that you are editing MaxCars in [General], not the player-capacity setting. This distinction is especially important when a server configuration contains both keys close together.
Alternative: override the file with BEAMMP_MAX_CARS
BeamMP Server v3.2.0 and later supports an environment variable named BEAMMP_MAX_CARS. Set it to the desired integer in the environment used to launch the server. The manual states that environment variables override values in ServerConfig.toml.

This method is useful when the server is managed by a process supervisor or container definition and you want the limit supplied as deployment configuration rather than edited into a file. The variable must be present in the environment of the BeamMP server process; setting it in an unrelated terminal or user session does not affect a process launched elsewhere.

Because the environment value has precedence, a file may show MaxCars = 5 while the running server uses another number from BEAMMP_MAX_CARS. When troubleshooting, inspect both sources. Change or remove the environment override if you want the TOML value to take effect, then restart the server so it receives the updated environment.

Temporary runtime changes with a Lua plugin
A Lua server plugin can call MP.Set with the MP.Settings.MaxCars identifier to change the setting while the server is running. This is a runtime option, suited to scripted events or administrative controls that should last only for the current process or session.
Treat a plugin change differently from the TOML edit:
- It does not establish the permanent value in
ServerConfig.toml. - A later restart can return the server to the persistent file value, or to an environment override if one is defined.
- The plugin must run successfully and use the exact
MP.Settings.MaxCarsidentifier. - Document the plugin’s behavior so another administrator knows why the live value differs from the file.
For a limit that should remain consistent after maintenance or reboot, edit the TOML file or configure BEAMMP_MAX_CARS instead. Use MP.Set when the temporary nature is intentional.
Troubleshooting when the limit does not change
The server still allows the old number
- Confirm the process was restarted. Saving a file does not reload the persistent setting in an already-running server.
- Check the working directory. Reopen the file used by the running process, not merely the copy beside an executable in another folder.
- Look for
BEAMMP_MAX_CARS. On v3.2.0 and later, an environment value overrides the TOML entry. Remove or update the override and restart. - Verify the key. The setting must be spelled and capitalized
MaxCarsand placed in[General].
The configuration looks correct but extra cars disappear
Deletion of an additional vehicle is the documented enforcement behavior. If the player has already reached the configured number, the next spawn is expected to be removed immediately. Count only that player’s active vehicles when testing; MaxCars is not a shared server-wide total.
The value was set to zero or a negative number
The documented accepted range starts at 1. Replace zero or a negative value with an integer of at least 1, save the file, and restart. Do not use an unsupported value as a way to disable the limit.
A plugin change disappears after a restart
That is consistent with a temporary runtime change. Persist the desired limit in ServerConfig.toml, or define BEAMMP_MAX_CARS for BeamMP Server v3.2.0 or later, then restart.
A safe change-and-test checklist
- Announce or schedule a short maintenance window and stop the server.
- Identify the working directory used by the BeamMP process.
- Back up the active
ServerConfig.tomlbefore editing. - Open the
[General]section and setMaxCarsto an integer of 1 or greater. - Check whether the launch environment defines
BEAMMP_MAX_CARS; on v3.2.0 and later, that value wins over the file. - Save the file without changing its name or extension.
- Start or restart the server.
- Have one player spawn vehicles up to the chosen limit, then attempt one additional spawn.
- Confirm that only the extra vehicle is deleted and that the setting has not unintentionally changed
MaxPlayers.
If you later need a different policy, repeat the same stop, edit, save, restart, and test cycle. Keeping the value in one documented persistent location prevents administrators from confusing a temporary plugin value or environment override with the baseline configuration.
